Anderson fans 13 in no-hitter

[3/22/03]Warren Central fireballer Lauren Anderson came within a two-out error of throwing a perfect game in the opening round of the Lady Vikes Invitational on Friday night.

Anderson struck out 13 and did not allow a hit through five innings in a 7-0 win over Rayville, La. The Lady Vikes will play the winner of the Brookhaven-Richland game today at 2:30 p.m.

Anderson retired the first 14 batters she faced 12 on strikeouts before a Rayville batter reached on a fielding error. Anderson struck out the next batter to complete the no-hitter.

Keisha Blue and Cookie Johnson each had RBI singles and Katie Barnett hit a solo home run for Warren Central.

Oak Grove, La. 3, St. Al 0

Ashleigh Clement struck out seven and walked two and allowed only one hit to Ashley Magee in leading Oak Grove at the Lady Vikes Invitational.

Laura Beth Lyons struck out seven in the loss.

VHS 6, Northwest Rankin 1

Lauren Johnson allowed only one unearned run as the Missy Gators (3-6) slammed Northwest Rankin on Friday night.

Johnson also had a single and three RBIs, while Holly Head had a two-RBI single, Kelsey Hudson had a pair of hits and Shannon Arnold went 2-for 3.
