Rosie Brown Cownas
CHICAGO Rosie Brown Cownas died Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2003, in Chicago. She was 94.
Mrs. Cownas was a longtime resident of the Cedars community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lottie Brown; her husband, James Cownas; and a son, Johnny B. Cownas.
She is survived by one sister, Geneva Brown of Chicago; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives, including Bessie Cownas of San Diego, Calif., and members of the Brown family of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Taylor Funeral Home in Chicago.
Christine H. Logan
Christine H. Logan died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 76.
Born in Illinois, Mrs. Logan was a former Jackson resident and had lived in Raymond for a number of years. She was the daughter of the late Frederick S. and Hazel Epert Orey.
She was a charter member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Jackson and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Raymond.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas James “Jim” Logan Sr., and a grandson, Jimmy Logan.
Survivors include six daughters, Martha Jean Saxon, Linda Mae Logan, Annie L. Smith and Mary C. Herrington, all of Raymond, Cheryl L. Jones of Madison and Tersita J. Mason of Bolton; three sons, Thomas J. Logan Jr. and Frederick S. Logan, both of Raymond, and Paul C. Logan of Jackson; 20 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services were at 11:30 a.m. today at Lakewood Memorial Park in Clinton with the Rev. Thomas McGing officiating.
A memorial Mass will be said at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Raymond. Visitation will follow in the parish hall of the church.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Jessie McBride
Services for Jessie McBride will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. McBride died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 83.
Mrs. McBride was born in Warren County and lived in Vicksburg for most of her life. She was a homemaker.
She was a member and a mother of Pleasant Green M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lonnie McBride; her mother, Beatrice Banks; her father, James Banks; and her sister, Darlie Mae Banks.
Survivors include two cousins, Louis McCollough and Amanda Bryant; Bertha Baker-Williams; and the McCollough and Richardson families of Greenville.
Walter M. Monsour
Walter M. Monsour died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2003, at his home. He was 44.
Mr. Monsour was a native of Woonsocket, R.I., and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past year. A veteran of the Gulf War, he was a communicant of the Catholic church.
Mr. Monsour is survived by his mother, Mary Josephs Monsour of Woonsocket; a brother, Fred J. Monsour of Fort Lee, N.J.; and other relatives.
Services will be in Woonsocket. Riles Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.
