Irene B. Bowers
Irene B. Bowers died Sunday, May 11, 2003. She was 84.
A native of Dover, Ark., Mrs. Bowers was a resident of Jonesboro, Ark., before moving to Vicksburg three years ago. She was a dental and office assistant in her husband’s practice and, in later years, became a potter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Eula Hughes Brewer, and her husband, Dr. Bill Bowers.
She is survived by two daughters, Lenore B. Barkley and Catherine W. Bowers, both of Vicksburg; one son, Bill Bowers of Georgetown, Ind.; and two sisters, Lucille B. Slack of Tulsa, Okla., and Norma Larsen of Albuquerque, N.M.
Private services will be at Mount View Cemetery in Cave City, Ark. Riles Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Hospice Ministries Inc., 450 Towne Center Blvd., Ridgeland, MS 39157 or to a favorite charity.
Willie Mae Lumpkin
Services for Willie Mae Lumpkin will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cool Springs M.B. Church with the Rev. Ryan Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday at Robbins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lumpkin died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.
Mrs. Lumpkin was born in Warren County. She was a homemaker and a member and mother at Cool Springs Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Terrell Lumpkin; two sons, Jessie Lumpkin Sr. and Allen Lumpkin; and one brother, Okay Berry.
She is survived by four sons, L.C. Lumpkin, Aarion Lumpkin, Jerry Lumpkin and Sylvester Lumpkin, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Catherine Gleese and Carolyn Irene Johnson, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Claude Berry of Vicksburg; 30 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Dr. L.G. Horn
Dr. L.G. “Gebe” Horn died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at his home. He was 83.
Born in Burns, Miss., Dr. Horn was the son of Lacy Gray and Bertha Lillian Caughman Horn. He had been a Vicksburg resident since 1949.
Dr. Horn was a graduate of Magee High School, Mississippi College and the University of Tennessee School of Medicine. He served his internship and residency in pediatrics at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis and was an Army flight surgeon with the Air Corps during and after World War II.
He practiced at The Street Clinic from 1949 until 1985. He was a member of the Board of Directors of The Street Clinic, a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatrics and a past member of the Vicksburg Y Men’s Club.
He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Mississippi Medical Society, the West Mississippi Medical Society and the Church of the Holy Trinity.
Dr. Horn was preceded in death by a wife, Elizabeth L. “Libby” Horn; one son, Jeffrey Horn; a brother, Paul C. Horn; and one sister, Willie Grace Everett.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry O. Horn of Vicksburg; one daughter, Georgia H. Terry of Denver, Colo.; a son, Todd Horn of Vicksburg; two sisters, Mary Ruth Dickey of Magee and Jean Ross of Pelahatchie; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of the Holy Trinity, 900 South St., with the Revs. Michael Nation and Clifton McInnis officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery under the direction of Riles Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the service in the hall of the McInnis Parish House at the church.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews: Knox Ross, John Everett, Tyler Horn, Grey Montgomery, Dickey Honea and Breck Honea.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy McGehee, Edley Jones, Jerry Silver, Leo Ingram, Gerald Easley, Bob Ehrhardt, William Raworth, Al Ford, Steve Mattingly, Bobby Alvarado, Fred Malik, Joe Gerache, E.C. Loflin, Haywood Emerson, Steve Barlow, Dr. Frank McPherson. Dr. Dan Edney, and all active and retired physicians of The Street Clinic.

Fannie R. Ouzts
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. Fannie R. Ouzts died Saturday, May 10, 2003, in Hot Springs, Ark. She was 81.
Ms. Ouzts was a former resident of Vicksburg and member of Southside Baptist Church.
Survivors include her nephew, Rosco Hooper of Marks, Miss.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Clemts, pastor of Southside Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of the service.
Pallbearers will be Wil Thomason, Rubble Grey, Kendal Buchan, Riley Presley, Todd Wilson and Mike Gettinger.
Honorary pallbearer is Ken Breeland.
Forrest Glenn Wood
McCOMB Forrest Glenn Wood died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at his home. He was 94.
Born in Amite County, Mr. Wood was the son of the late Joseph and Ella Lowrey Wood. He retired from the civil engineering department of the Illinois Central Railroad after 30 years of service. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and served as president of the Friendship Water Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a wife, Gertrude Kelley Wood; a son, Dudley Spence; two brothers, Marvin E. Wood and William H. Wood; and a grandson, David Wood.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred McEwen Wood of McComb; three daughters, Mrs. Dale Warnock of Vicksburg, Bettye Scott of Niceville, Fla., and Betty Spence of Diamondhead, Miss.; a brother, J.O. Wood of Summit; four sisters, Edith McCulley, Mary Nail and Ella Mae Elmore, all of McComb, and Margaret Cassell of Jackson; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Catchings Funeral Home in McComb with the Rev. Loney Joe Hallberg officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 tonight and noon until the services Tuesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Mark Wood, Ted Wood, Tommy Lindley, Josh Martin, Jim Martin, Corey Scott, Kelly Scott and Chuck McLaughlin.
