Stephen Thrasher Abraham

PORT GIBSON Stephen Thrasher “Buddy” Abraham died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 85.

A lifetime resident of Port Gibson, Mr. Abraham served in the Army in World War II. He was past president of the Port Gibson Lions Club.

He was retired from the U.S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier and owned Auto-Vue Drive-In Theater.

He is survived by two sons, William “Bill” Abraham of Port Gibson and Charles Mikell Abraham of Madison, and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at St. James Episcopal Church in Port Gibson. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 today until the service in the parish house at the church.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Sulser, Ralph Sulser, James Trimble, Lee Hamilton Abraham, Mike Mikell, Hasie Marsalis, Jake Louis Abraham Jr. and Percy McCaa.

Honorary pallbearers will be Walter Cade Sr., Tom Bowen, Albert Steele, Jake Spencer, Jack Gannon, Bill Case and Jake Louis Abraham III.

Memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church of Port Gibson.

O’Dare Lee Earl Mims

O’Dare Lee Earl “Woo” Mims died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 20.

Mr. Mims was employed with Robert Lee Roofing Co. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Savannah Rawls; his paternal grandparents, Lottie P. Clark and Jack Cessna; and a sister, Brenda Guillory.

Survivors include his parents, Willie A. Clark and Dorothy Mims Clark of Vicksburg; his stepfather, Otha Mims Jr. of Utica; three brothers, Michael Clark, Richard Clark and Donald Clark, all of Houston, Texas; six sisters, Catina M. Stamps and LeKeitha Mims, both of Vicksburg, Debra Clark and Jackie Nixon, both of Houston, and Kwanda Davis and Denise Stamps, both of Utica; his maternal grandfather, Bill Rawls of Utica; and cousins, other relatives and friends.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Ver Lee Peterson

OAK GROVE Ver Lee Peterson died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly in Mer Rouge, La. She was 83.

Mrs. Peterson was born in East Carroll Parish and had been a longtime resident of Oak Grove.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and James William Franks.

She is survived by her husband, James Earl Peterson of Oak Grove; three sons, Jay Peterson of Oak Grove, Ronald Peterson of Goodwill, La., and Steve Peterson of Farmerville, La.; a daughter, Jamie Dukes of Choudrant, La.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. William Fowler officiating. Burial followed at Redwing Cemetery.

Robert Lee Rockhill

Robert Lee “Rock” Rockhill died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at his home. He was 62.

Mr. Rockhill was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Sr. and Lucille Champion Rockhill; a brother, Albert Rockhill; and four daughters, Gwendolyn Lee Williams Rockhill, Lucille Rockhill, Rosemary Rockhill and Addie Rockhill.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Lee Brown Rockhill of Vicksburg; two daughters, Barbara “Jean” Williams Ross and Sharon “Shell” Williams, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Sylvester Rockhill Jr. of Vicksburg, Gene Rockhill of Chicago and Sidney Rockhill of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
