Martha Ellis

PORT GIBSON Martha Ellis died Saturday, April 12, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.

A resident of Port Gibson, Ms. Ellis was a member of Whitehall Baptist Church. She graduated from Alcorn College and taught school for 60 years before her retirement.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Ellis Sr. and Pinky Ellis; two brothers, Harvey Ellis and Richard Ellis; four sisters, Annie Ellis Tisdale, Hattie Hayes, Ruby Ellis and Daisy Ellis.

Survivors include a brother, Josiah Ellis of Pattison; four nieces; three nephews; and other relatives, including members of the Rev. Jimmy Ellis family, Inez Chatman family, Alex Dorsey Jr. family, Ada Bridgeman family, and Mary Tisdale Hedrick and Dorothy Curry, all of Port Gibson.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Whitehall Baptist Church with the Revs. Jimmy Ellis and Leroy Dee officiating. Burial will follow at the Ellis Family Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be until 5 today at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Neal Ellis, T.J. Payne, Derrick Jones, John Dickey, Tywarren Brown and Michael Wells.

Honorary pallbearers will be Harvey Ellis Jr., Robert Ellis, Abraham Jones, Dannie Beasly, Eddie C. Ellis, Zackery Ellis and Samuel Noble.
