Charlie Ray Amos

Charlie Ray Amos died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at his home. He was 45.

Born in Flint, Mich., Mr. Amos was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He graduated from Vicksburg High School in 1977 and worked at Waterways Experiment Station, Kirby Inland Marine, Chotin Transportation Inc., and Midland Enterprises Inc. He was a member of Mount Hebron M.B. Church.

A veteran and recruiting officer of the U.S. Army in Europe, Mr. Amos was awarded the Army Achievement Medal for exceptionally meritorious service and a Certificate of Achievement for services in Europe.

He was preceded in death by his father, J.T. Robbins; and his grandmother, Roberta Amos.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Lee Robbins of Vicksburg; three brothers, Chauncey Robbins, Michael Sims and James Robbins, all of Vicksburg; three aunts, Lucille Brown, Berda C. Amos and Laura Taylor, all of Vicksburg; an uncle, Simon Amos of Vicksburg; and other relatives including, Berda Ann Amos.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Mount Hebron M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Robbins Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel.

Glen Dunn Glen Dunn died Monday, March 24, 2003, at his home. He was 72.

A native of Brookhaven, Mr. Dunn was the son of the late William O. and Carrie O. Wooten Dunn. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen Dunn; and a brother, William O. Dunn Jr.

He is survived by a son, Tom Dunn of Denver, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Ilona Beard of Vicksburg; one sister, Maxine Pritchard of Pascagoula; and three granddaughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home with Kevin Marr officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Friday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Beard, Ricky Nevels, Tommy Beard and T.J. Beard.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Ferris, Red Dowdy and Frank Whitaker.

Nathaniel King Sr.

LORMAN Nathaniel King Sr. died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 86.

Mr. King was born in Jefferson County and was a resident of Lorman. He was a farmer and logger. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Port Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Clara Gibson King.

He is survived by six sons, Jeff King and Nathaniel King Jr., both of Pine Bluff, Ark., Willie King of Akron, Ohio, Author J. King of Palo Alto, Calif., Robert King of El Paso, Texas, and Charles King of Oakland, Calif.; three daughters, Ruby Johnson, Clara McGriggs and Audra Savage, all of Port Gibson; a brother, Jessie King of Port Gibson; a sister, Christin Harris of Fayette; 25 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ in Port Gibson with Pastor Eugene Corney officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Christian Cemetery in Lorman.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Friday at Rollins Chapel in Port Gibson with wake from 6 until 7 p.m.

Ruth B. Kirk

Ruth B. Kirk died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 89.

Born in Raymond, Mrs. Kirk was the daughter of P.A. and Mamie Smith Bryant. She was a member of Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George R. Kirk; and three sisters, Elizabeth Bryant, Patricia Downey and Mary Gladney.

She is survived by three sisters, Catherine Lentz of Vicksburg, Josephine George of Pascagoula and Minnie Belle Brown of Raymond; one brother, P.A. Bryant Jr. of Huntsville, Ala.; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Riles Funeral Home with the Revs. Ed Hightower and James Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Friday until the service.
