Robert L. McGee Jr.

Robert L. “Bobby” McGee Jr. died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 49.

A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. McGee was a retired truck driver. He was an Army veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Catholic faith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. McGee Sr.; and his stepfather, James B. Stansel Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Hamilton of Vicksburg and Lisa McGee of Desark, Ark.; his mother, Evonne Stansel of Vicksburg; two brothers, Paul McGee of Wasilla, Ala., and James W. Stansel of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Wendy Walters of Delhi and Terry Blazier of Jacksonville; and a grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Jones, Leon McCurley, Melvin Beard, Ricky Arnold, D.C. Beard, Jimmy Vincent and Wade Humphries.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Humphries and Eddie H. Humphries.

David Bill Scott

David Bill Scott died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 80.

Mr. Scott was a resident of Vicksburg.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Scott and Joe Percy Scott; and three sisters, Nannie Mae Jackson, Jessie Mae Scott and Anna Johnson.

Survivors include a brother, Elliott Scott of Vicksburg; two nieces, Jessie Neal and Rosa Sanders, both of Vicksburg; three nephews, James Scott Jr., Clarence Scott and Ellis Scott, all of Vicksburg; and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Billy Ione Shipley

OAK GROVE Billy Ione Shipley died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at her home in Oak Grove. She was 83.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Shipley; a son, Raydon Shipley; and her parents, William Andrew and Mary Emma Whitaker.

Survivors include five sons, John Douglas Shipley of Fort Worth, Texas, Henry Jerold Shipley of Baker, Fla., David Lynn Shipley and Richard Wayne Shipley, both of Monroe, La., and James Winfield Shipley of West Monroe, La.; two daughters, Willie Stanford of Fort Worth, Texas and Mary Jean Pope of McComb, Miss.; a sister, Jewel Whitaker of Monroe; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jeff Sykes officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery.

Visitation will be until 8 tonight and Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be James Brent Stanford, Chris Burgess, Marc Shipley, Eric Shipley, Brad Pope and Kenneth Carnahan.

Delores Telford

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Delores Telford died Friday, May 30, 2003, in Minneapolis, Minn. She was 61.

A former Vicksburg resident, Mrs. Telford lived in Minneapolis. She was a graduate of Bowman High School and a retired LPN with Vicksburg Medical Center. She was a member of New Mount Zion M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Thomas and Daisy Mae Hall Thomas.

Survivors include four daughters, Sandra Washington, Sheila Haynes, Glenda Telford and Linda Telford, all of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren; aunts and uncles; and other relatives including, the Waits and Hall families of Vicksburg.

Services were Thursday in Minneapolis.

Andrew Thrash

Andrew “Sonny” Thrash died Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his home. He was 62.

A lifelong resident of Warren County, he owned S&S Grocery in Redwood for a number of years. He had worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 20 years. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Thrash was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Owsley Thrash, and two sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Thrash of Vicksburg; two sons, David Thrash and Clay Thrash, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Andrea Thrash of Vicksburg and Terri Harrison of Eagle Lake; three stepchildren, Aaron Watts, Jeromy Watts and Terri Crowder, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Linda Folden and Kay Mackey, both of Redwood; his father, C.C. Thrash of Vicksburg; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie O’Quinn officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Roland, Stephen Roth, Thomas Wells, Denton Stokes, Nathan Skipworth, Newell Simrall, Jimmy Pace and Ray Kelly.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Roth, Butch Burroughs, Barron Williamson, Dr. Hildon Sessums and Dr. David Halinski.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 105 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Jimmy Lee White

HERMANVILLE Jimmy Lee White died Friday, May 30, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 68.

A resident of Hermanville, Mr. White was a member of Mountro Grove M.B. Church and was a self-employed mechanic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie White Sr. and Allie McClure-White.

Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy Beasley, Jamison Grier and Cheyenne Grier, all of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five sons, Jimmy Lee White Jr., James White, Brian White, Eric Worthy and Steven Grier, all of Pittsburgh; four brothers, Cleo White of Detroit, Mich., Charlie White Jr. and Alonzo White, both of Houston, Texas, and Johnny White of Hermanville; three sisters, Myrtle Walker, Alice Walker and Willie Burrell, all of Hermanville; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mountro Grove M.B. Church with the Rev. Marvin Smith Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc. in Port Gibson.

Visitation will be from 1 until 6 tonight at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. until the service Saturday at the church.
