Carl Teasdel Brown Jr.
MINDEN, La. Carl Teasdel “Shorty” Brown Jr. died Wednesday, May 7, 2003, at Town and Country Nursing Home in Minden, La. He was 81.
Mr. Brown was a Marine veteran, having served in World War II and seven major campaigns in the Southern Pacific Theater. He served on the Lake Providence Police Department for 17 years and worked at Terrell Norris Farmers Feed and Seed until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Teasdel Brown and Carrie Lee Brown; a brother, Howard Brown; and a sister, Estelle White.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Brown of Simsboro, La.; two daughters, Judy Custer of Monroe, La., and Martha Tackett of Oak Grove; a stepson, Richard Diamond of Plains, Texas; three stepdaughters, Shelly McIntyre of Lake Providence, Toni Alford of Vicksburg and Jan Gunter of Vero Beach, Fla.; two brothers, Felix Brown of Bastrop, La., and Jimmy Brown of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence with the Revs. Gayle Riles and Paul Ninemire officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Providence City Cemetery.
Visitation will be today and Saturday until the service.
Pallbearers will be William Hawkins, Joshua Phillips, Wayne Crowe, Scott Johnston, Julius Bariola Jr. and Howard Muirhead.
Bessie Mae Rouse
OAK GROVE Bessie Mae Rouse died Thursday, May 8, 2003, at West Carroll Care Center in Oak Grove. She was 89.
A resident of Oak Grove, Mrs. Rouse was a member of Chickasaw Church of Christ and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Rouse; and her parents, Joe O. Lemoine and Florence Braswell.
Survivors include a daughter, Florence R. Hays of Oak Grove; a granddaughter, Mary Gayle McCain of Naples, Italy; two great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Andy Guess of Bastrop, La., and Virgie LaCaze of Oak Grove.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Revs. Gayle Riles and Ken Wright officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne, La.
Pallbearers will be Roy Rouse, Harp McDowell, Eddie Russell, Mack Green, Dana Guess and Jessie Davis.
