Frieda Elizabeth DeStefano

ROCHESTER, Minn. Frieda Elizabeth DeStefano died Monday, June 9, 2003, at Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home in Rochester, Minn. She was 77.

Born in Kirby, Ark., Mrs. DeStafano had lived in Tallulah for 25 years before moving to Rochester. She was a homemaker and a member of Pax Christi Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George T. DeStefano.

Survivors include a son, George F. DeStefano of Rochester; a daughter, Carmelyn Rooney of Prairieville, La.; her mother, Georgie McCormic of Magnolia, Ark.; a brother, Len McCormic; two sisters, Ollie Nix and Verma Lankford; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Tallulah with the Rev. Ferre D’Cruz officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Alvin Dowe

UTICA Alvin “Dick” Dowe died Monday, June 9, 2003, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 82.

A lifelong resident of Utica, Mr. Dowe was an Army veteran having served in World War II, where he was a prisoner of war. He was a retired millwright and a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Dowe; his parents, Will and Emma M. Dowe; three sisters; and four brothers.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Debbie Holloway of Vicksburg and Carol McManus of Marksville, Texas; a stepson, Floyd Phelps of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica with the Rev. E.L. Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Dowe’s nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Thomas J. Hogan

HICO, Texas Thomas J. “Tom” Hogan died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at his home. He was 80.

A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Hogan had lived in Hico, Texas, since last year. He was the son of the late Oliver and Lucy Roddy Hogan and was a Navy veteran having served in World War II.

Mr. Hogan owned Hogan Sheet Metal Co., for 60 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Dixie Division of Company B, Culkin Lions Club, Sheet Metal Local No. 406, the Knights of Columbus and St. Paul Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Hogan; two brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include his wife, Mary W. Hogan of Hico; two daughters, Marrianne Nsour of Fremont, Calif., and Susan Shepens of Richland, Wash.; six sons, Thomas Hogan of Hammond, La., Michael Hogan of Edwards, Jerome Hogan and Philip Hogan, both of Hico, and Martin Hogan and Dennis Hogan, both of Vicksburg; a brother, Danny Hogan of New Roads, La.; two sisters, Mable Ellington of Natchez and Lucy Sutterfield of Yazoo City; 20 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
