Albert Ray Brown Sr.
Services for Albert Ray Brown Sr. will be at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem M.B. Church with the Rev. David Brown Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.
Mr. Brown died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at his home. He was 48.
Mr. Brown was a member of Bethlehem M.B. Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur W. Brown Sr.; a sister, JoAnn Brown; and grandparents, Joe and Annie Parker, Robert Harris, Alma Hall, Indiana Brown Paulding and Joe Brown.
He is survived by a son, Albert Ray Brown Jr. of Albion, Mich.; a daughter, LaTasha Brown of Albion; his mother, evangelist Mattie L. Brown of Vicksburg; seven brothers, Michael Brown and Gregory Brown, both of Vicksburg, Robert Brown Sr. and Brian Brown, both of Albion, Arthur Brown Jr. of Columbus, Ga., Larry Brown Sr. of Lafayette, La., and Willie Brown of Kenner, La.; and one sister, Brenda L. Brown of Vicksburg.
Riley Ellis
HERMANVILLE Riley Ellis died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at his home in Hermanville. He was 67.
Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his parents, Riley and Idella Washington Ellis; two brothers, Hezekiah Ellis and Melvin Ellis; and four sisters, Dellrie Tisdale, Carrie Norrells, Ella Ruth Ellis and Stella Williams.
He is survived by Rosie Washington of Hermanville; three sons, Howard Earl Jackson, Riley Ellis and Kelvin Ellis, all of Hermanville; three daughters, Margaret Turner and Valerie Ellis, both of Hermanville, and Carolyn Ward of Jackson; two brothers, Tommy Earl Ellis and Mitchell Ellis, both of Chicago; four sisters, Ruby L. Brown of Longview, Texas, Lucy McGee of Pattison, Maple Ellis of Chicago and Rosie Polk of Los Angeles; 11 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Whitehall M.B. Church in Pattison with the Rev. Leroy Dee officiating. Burial will follow at the Ellis Family Cemetery in Pattison.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. of Port Gibson and from 1 p.m. Sunday until the service at the church.
Nancy Kathleen Smith Hennington
PORT GIBSON Nancy Kathleen “Kathy” Smith Hennington died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Hospice Ministries of Ridgeland. She was 76.
A housewife, Mrs. Smith was born in Morganfield, Ky. She moved to Port Gibson in the 1940s.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Bert Hennington; three sons, Danny Hennington and Russell Hennington, both of Port Gibson, and Frank Hennington of Clinton; two sisters, Bea Jackson of Illinois and Liz Lynch of Port Gibson; three brothers, Jim Smith and Wicky Smith, both of Illinois, and Dave Smith of Port Gibson; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 5 p.m. today at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. today until the service at the funeral home.

Marvis Evelyn Davis Torrey
Marvis Evelyn Davis Torrey died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
A native of Edwards, Mrs. Torrey moved to Vicksburg in 1944. She was the daughter of the late George Marvin and Etna Simmons Davis and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Hugo Torrey Jr.; a granddaughter; and sisters and brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Burke S. “Buddy” Torrey of Vicksburg and Victor H. Torrey III of Windsor, N.C.; four daughters, Evelyn T. Harrison and Lexine T. Cool, both of Vicksburg, Lillian T. Stegall of Chandler, Texas, and Marvis T. Barlow of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Lucretia Cline of Pass Christian and Frances Martin of Hattiesburg; and 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Reiber, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3:30 until 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Chuck Harrison, Chris Stegall, Jay Harrison, Scott Torrey, Robbie Torrey, Brent Torrey, Alan Torrey, Taylor Barlow, Tucker Barlow and Schuyler Cool.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Lanting, Dr. Daniel Edney, Charlotte Ellis, Mildred Coleman, Jimmy Harrison, Butch Stegall, Mike Barlow, Donnie Cool, Jimmy Torrey, and the staff and affiliates of Belmont Gardens.

Philip J. Vedros Jr.
Philip J. Vedros Jr. died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 77,
Mr. Vedros had lived in Vicksburg since 1950. He was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Waterways Experiment Station.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Faye Loviza Vedros, in 2001.
He is survived by three sons, Philip J. Vedros III and Steven Vedros, both of Vicksburg, and Mark Vedros of Madison; three daughters, Mary Stewart and Joanne Wright, both of Vicksburg, and Maureen Vedros of Long Beach, Miss; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
