[1/24/03]Warren Central didn’t go down quietly, but it will still miss the playoffs.
Clinton beat WC 2-1 in double overtime on Thursday to eliminate the Vikings (8-8-2, 2-2 Division 6-5A) from playoff contention. The Clinton victory also put Vicksburg into the Class 5A playoffs, which begin Tuesday.
The Gators will begin on the road against the Division 8-5A winner. That would be either Petal or Oak Grove, which is ranked No. 1 in the state.
Allen Carlisle scored WC’s only goal against Clinton.
The Lady Vikes also fell to Clinton on Thursday, 2-0. Mallory Coleman and Kendal Lee scored for the Lady Arrows, who will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from Division 6-5A. The Lady Vikes were eliminated from playoff contention with the loss.
Vicksburg won the division and will host a playoff game against the second-place team from Division 8-5A on Tuesday.
Today’s scheduled games for both Warren Central and Vicksburg have been canceled because of the cold weather. WC was scheduled to play Murrah and VHS was supposed to play Northwest Rankin. Neither match will be made up.
