George Abraham Farris
SAN DIEGO George Abraham Farris died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, at the Silverado Senior Living Center in Encinitas, Calif. He was 81.
A native of Meridian, Mr. Farris was reared in Vicksburg and had lived in San Diego for the past 60 years. He was the son of the late Abraham and Zelpha Ellis Farris. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of California and was past president of the California Music Teacher Association.
Mr. Farris served as a Boy Scout master and taught music in the San Diego Public School system. He was awarded a Community Leadership Award for service to the city and gave piano and violin lessons in his home until the age of 81.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Farris Angelo; and two brothers, Johnnie Farris and Mickey Farris.
Survivors include three nephews, Robert Angelo and Jim Angelo, both of Brandon, and John Wade Farris of Madison; two nieces, Donna Hardy of Vicksburg and Becky Collins of Dallas, Texas; and other relatives.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick Farrell, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Friday at the funeral home.
Peter Judge
Peter Judge died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, at his home. He was 80.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Judge was retired from Anderson-Tully.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Lucy Judge; a brother, Dave Judge; and two sisters, Canary Fuller and Bernice King.
Survivors include his wife of Joliet, Ill.; seven children of Joliet; a brother, Arthur Judge of Vicksburg; a sister, Maggie Judge of Los Angeles; and other relatives and friends.
Williams Funeral Service has charge of arrangements.
Annie Lee Atlas Spencer
RADCLIFFE, Ky. Annie Lee Atlas Spencer died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Ireland Army Hospital in Fort Knox, Ky. She was 45.
Mrs. Spencer lived in Radcliffe, Ky., where she was a department manager at Wal-Mart. She was a 1976 graduate of Rolling Fork High School.
Survivors include her husband, Freddie Spencer Sr. of Radcliffe; a son, Freddie Spencer Jr. of Radcliffe; a daughter, Candace Spencer of Radcliffe; her mother, Claudine Atlas of Vicksburg; her father, Joe Thompson of Memphis; a grandmother, Rosie Thompson of Leland, Miss.; four brothers, Johnny Atlas, Mark Atlas and Orlando Jones, all of Vicksburg, and Derrick Thompson of San Diego; five sisters, Myra Harris and Mary Angela Turner, both of Vicksburg, Rhonda Thompson and Yolanda Washington, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Patricia Lockhart of Leland; a grandson; aunts, uncles and cousins; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Mount Lula M.B. Church in Rolling Fork with the Rev. Lester Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Green Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Frye Funeral Home in Leland.
Visitation will be from 3 until 4 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Thomas Williams Sr.
Thomas Williams Sr. died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 86.
Mr. Williams retired after 38 years as a core operator at Waterways Experiment Station. He was a former employee of Baker Security. He was a member of Paragon Lodge No. 7 and Springhill M.B. Church, where he was in the choir.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Sam Charleston and Neppie Williams; a daughter, Connie Evelyn Williams; a son, Dwight Williams; six brothers, Austin Gibson, George Ellis Williams, Sam Charleston Jr., Roosevelt Charleston, Richard Charleston and Isiah Charleston; and a sister, Mary Lee Charleston.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Williams of Vicksburg; three sons, Thomas Williams Jr. and Michael A. Williams, both of Hampton, Va., and Joe Samuel Williams of Vicksburg; four daughters, Gwendolyn Williams Strong and Linda Williams Sims, both of Vicksburg, Pamela Williams Ned of St. Louis, Mo., and Doris Jones of Austin, Texas; two brothers, Alfred Charleston and Leon Charleston, both of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Willie B. Crump of Edwards and Rosalie Springs of Grand Rapids, Mich.; grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends, including the Hughes and Smith families.
