Bill Baker Jr.

Bill Baker Jr. died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 64.

Born in Lucedale, Mr. Baker had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 50 years. He was a former employee of Village Volkswagen of Vicksburg and had worked as a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of Elks Lodge No. 95 and the Long Lake Hunting Club.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanora F. Baker of Vicksburg; a son, Elvis “Buster” Baker III of West Port, Ind.; a daughter, Kimberly Baker Alexander of Vicksburg; a sister, Juanita Foster of Georgia; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Sam Dunaway officiating. Burial will follow at Natchez City Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Oswald Jones, Linn McDuff, Walker Jones, John Dolan, Carlton Rone, Jerry Boland, Ray Franco and Roy Campbell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Elks B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 95.

Vergia Adcock Herrington

Vergia Adcock Herrington died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Trace Haven Nursing Home. She was 85.

A native of Mize, Miss., Mrs. Herrington had lived in Vicksburg for the past 45 years. She was retired clerk for Dry Good Store and a member of Highland Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.B. Herrington; and her parents, Virgil and Seba Amison Adcock.

Survivors include a son, Ray Herrington of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Nell Sistrunk of Mount Olive, Miss.; a brother, Vernon Adcock of Burus, La., two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at noon Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Ivey officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Wilson Sistrunk, Joe Wooley, Mark Herrington, Alex Herrington, Carl Culicchia and Don Houston.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Gardner, Pete Burks, Bob White and members of the Ruth Sunday School Class.

Paul McDon Kilburn

Paul McDon Kilburn died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at his home. He was 72.

A native of Atmore, Ala., Mr. Kilburn had lived in Vicksburg since 1964. He was the son of the late Prospo and Una Goodwin Kilburn. He retired from Anderson-Tully Co. in 1993 after 29 years as farm manager of Mahannah Farm. He was employed by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks and was named Sportsman of the Year by Ducks Unlimited.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine E. Kilburn of Vicksburg; a son, Bruce J. Kilburn of Vicksburg; a daughter, Lisa Beth Kilburn Barnette of Valley Park; a sister, Maxine Reese of Koshkonong, Mo.; a brother, Joe F. Kilburn of Elkhart, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Fisher Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Mark Rowland and Terry White officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until the service Wednesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Scott Baker, Tony Kolb, Richard Cockrell, Rusty Larson, Richard Hanks, George Reynolds, Lee Harvey and Buster Vinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Blansett, Glenn Carraway, Billy Cockrell, Jimmy Gouras, Martin Lewis, Donald Cross, William Douglas, Dr. Steve Patterson, Paul Kerr, Dr. Mack Furr, John Leigh Hyland, Leroy Frey, Chris Gouras and Dr. Lee Allen.

William Fearon Lauderdale Sr.

William Fearon Lauderdale Sr. died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 82.

Mr. Lauderdale was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He retired from Waterways Experiment Station as assistant personnel chief and had also retired from the City of Vicksburg Civil Defense office.

He graduated from St. Aloysius College in 1938 and had served with the Marines in World War II and the Army in the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of St. Michael Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 898, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.

Mr. Lauderdale was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jenne Lauderdale; his father, John Hicks Lauderdale; and two brothers, George Edward Lauderdale and John Hicks “Bullie” Lauderdale.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Barber Lauderdale of Vicksburg; two sons, William F. Lauderdale Jr. of Vicksburg and Joseph E. Lauderdale of Jackson; two daughters, Jane L. Flowers of Vicksburg and Chris L. Maloney of Madison; nine grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Michael Catholic Church with the Rev. P.J. Curley, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home with Knights of Columbus prayers at 6:15 and Rosary at 6:30. Visitation will continue from 2:30 until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be L.W. Callaway III, Billy Riddle, Bernard Theobald, Joe Zelasko, Al McDevitt and David Vanderberry.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Knights of Columbus and the Breakfast Club.
