Opal L. Butler
Opal L. Butler died Wednesday, July 2, 2003. She was 47.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Butler was a seamstress and a member of the Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dot Landrum.
She is survived by two daughters, Susan Fleming and Sere Davidson, both of Vicksburg; a son, Carl Landrum of Vicksburg; her father, James H. Landrum Sr. of Vicksburg; three sisters, Patricia Hedrick and Alice McMillin, both of Vicksburg, and Bonnie Whitehead of Charleston, S.C.; three brothers, James Henry Landrum Jr. of Summerville, S.C., and Darrell Landrum and Cecil Landrum, both of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with the Rev. A.J. Stevens officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of the service Monday at Riles Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jim Jernigan, Carl Storey, Billy J. Davis Jr., Joe Fleming, David Baggert and Danny Whitehead.
Ardell Ford
KNOXVILLE n Ardell Ford of Knoxville, Tenn., died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Shannondale Healthcare Center. She was 83.
Mrs. Ford lived in Vicksburg for 50 years before she moved to Knoxville, Tenn. In Vicksburg, she was a member of Traveler’s Rest M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mattie Brown of Stampley, Miss.; her husband, Zack “Kid” Ford; a daughter, Verine Ford; three brothers, James Brown, L.C. Brown and Ernest Brown; and four sisters, Carlie Brown, Beulah Greene, Bertha Rice and Louise Morgan.
Survivors include four daughters Helen James Smith of Glenwood, Ill., Bettye King of Memphis and Linda Russell and Denise Jackson, both of Knoxville, Tenn.; three brothers, Joe Brown of Ferriday, La., Charles Brown of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Earl Brown of Chicago; a sister, Mamie Fulton of Chicago; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Traveler’s Rest M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Stampley.
Visitation will be from 4 until 5 this afternoon at Unity Mortuary in Knoxville and from noon Tuesday until the service at Traveler’s Rest in Vicksburg.
Lakeview Funeral Home of Vicksburg has charge of the arrangements.
Mammie Dondee Long
SHREVEPORT Mammie Dondee Long of Shreveport died Friday, July 4, 2003, at Richland Manor Nursing Home in Delhi, La. She was 80.
Mrs. Long was a retired nurse from Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport. She graduated from Forest High School in 1941 and as a registered nurse from Charity Hospital in Shreveport in 1944. She was a second lieutenant in the Army at several hospitals, caring for injured soldiers during and after World War II.
She was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Vorse Long; her parents, Wiley Louis and Lillie Mae Black; four brothers, Louie Black, James Black, Norman Black and C. B. Black; six sisters, Mavis Black Atkins, Mary Jon Black Hollingworth, Charlese Black Johnson, Francis Black, Mildred Black and Martha Black.
Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Long of Delhi; a sister, Maurine Black Hollingworth of Oak Grove; a nephew and a niece.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Rev. Pat Loftin, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Oak Grove. Visitation will be before the service.
Pallbearers will be Roy Fortune, Ron Ellis, Harvey Black, Leonard Black, Howard Atkins and Charles Atkins.
William C. Greeson
William C. “Bill” Greeson died Friday, July 4, 2003, in Garland, Texas. He was 77.
Mr. Greeson was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was also a retired barge engineer with Penrod Drilling Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gus and Frankie Greeson; and a son, George Greeson.
Survivors include his wife, Lola Greeson of Garland; three children, Bland Greeson of Rayville, Kimberly Hill of Austin, Texas, and William C. “Cully” Greeson of Garland; six sisters, Betty Grafton of Bossier City, La., Dolores Mays of Denham Springs, La., Wanda Carlisle, Theresa Hunter and Regina Greeson, all of Sibley, La., and Shirley Cantrell of Byhalia; and four grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hill Crest Funeral Home and Hill Crest Memorial Mausoleum with the Rev. Melton Prothro officiating. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Jimmy George Stark
TALLULAH Services for Jimmy George Start will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah with Brother John Wilkins officiating. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.
Mr. Start died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. He was 65.
A native of Coffeeville, Miss., Mr. Start had lived in Tallulah for many years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tallulah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Yeates and Mr. and Mrs. George G. Stark.
Survivors include three sisters, Betty Stark Norris of Tallulah, Nancilee Yeates Bodine of Long Beach, Miss., and Catherine Yeates Sloan of St. Augustine, Fla.; two brothers, Bill R. Stark of Lufkin, Texas, and Larry Stark of Campti, La.; and two aunts, Minnie Lee Summerville and Bessie Campbell, both of Campti.
Pallbearers will be Marshall Sevier, Donald Collins, Bill Ziegler, Tommy Ervin, Cyndi Phillips and Maranath Norris.
Rosie Mary Turner-Hubbard
Rosie Mary Turner-Hubbard died Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at River Region West. She was 72.
Mrs. Hubbard was a member of Hopewell M.B. Church and served on the Mother Board.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hubbard; her father, Willie Woods; a son, Malcolm R. Robertson; and a daughter, Burnetta Kay Robertson.
Survivors include her mother, L.E. Bookins of Natchez; a son, Roosevelt Robertson of Vicksburg; four daughters, Dorotha Robertson, Alma Hamberlin and Alease Johnson, all of Vicksburg, and Lizzie Mae Summers of Jackson; 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Williams Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Hopewell Cemetery in Vicksburg.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 until 7 Monday evening.
