Rubye M. Botto

Rubye M. Botto died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at The Olive Branch nursing home in Tallulah. She was 90.

Mrs. Botto was born in Tuscumbia, Ala., and spent much of her life in Vicksburg. She was educated in Sheffield, Ala., and was a member of Crawford Street United Methodist Church, where she was a charter member of Aldersgate Sunday School Class and an honorary lifetime member of the administrative board. She was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and was one of the organizers of the local chapter.

Mrs. Botto retired in 1975 from Mississippi River Commission/Lower Mississippi Valley Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after 30 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Albert Botto.

She is survived by a brother, James P. Menne of Phoenix, Ariz.; a niece, Dolores Stanley of Tuscumbia; and other relatives.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoffrey Joyner officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Fisher Funeral Home from 3 p.m. until the service Monday.

Pallbearers will be Pat Cashman, Robert R. Morrison Jr., Robert R. Morrison III, Mark Pendergrass, Karen Anderson-Smith and Blake Teller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Martin White, Henry Cloud, Kirk Fordice, Mike Jackson, Jimmy Pendergrass, Clay Pendergrass, Dr. Gordon Sluis and Hunter Fordice.

F.E. Brasfield Jr.

EDWARDS F.E. Brasfield Jr. died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 73.

Mr. Brasfield was a lifelong resident of Edwards and graduated as valedictorian from Edwards High School. He attended Hinds Junior College and the University of Mississippi, where he participated in many student groups. He was a graduate of the American Institute of Banking, the Rutgers Graduate School of Management and the School of Banking of the South.

He was employed for many years as vice president of Deposit Guaranty National Bank and was president of Leflore Bank in Greenwood at the time of their merger. At the time of his death, he was financial adviser for Legg Mason in Jackson and was a member of several professional fraternities.

Mr. Brasfield was a member of the Jackson Opera Guild, the Jackson Music Association and the Capitol Lions Club, where he was honored as a Melvin Fellow and the Greenwood Lions Club. he also worked with the American Red Cross, the March of Dimes, the YMCA, Magnolia Speech School, Hinds County Cancer Society, United Way and the Jackson Chamber of Commerce.

He was a member of Edwards Presbyterian Church and served in most of the leadership positions of the church. He served nationally as a trustee of the Presbyterian Church of America Foundation.

Mr. Brasfield was a member of Church of the Holy Trinity Episcopal in Vicksburg, where he was a member of the choir for the past 15 years and a lay Eucharistic minister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Bankston Brasfield and Fritz Ernest Brasfield Sr.; a daughter, Jane Brasfield; and a sister, Nancye Brasfield Wood.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kenna Brasfield of Edwards; two daughters, Jean B. Blakeney and Lyn B. Vinson; eight grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Edwards Cemetery with the Revs. Michael Nation, Clifton J. McInnis Jr. and David Elliott officiating. Riles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be at 3 p.m. Monday until a memorial service at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity Episcopal.

Memorials may be made to the Church of the Holy Trinity Music Fund, 900 South St., Vicksburg, MS 39180.

Pallbearers will be Francis David Harpole Jr., Russell Cannada, John Pail Varner and Gordon Randle Emrick.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jon Michael Beall, Dr. W. Bruce Lambuth, Dr. Michael Koury, officers and staff of the Jackson branch of Legg Mason and retired officers of Deposit Guaranty National Bank.

Eli David Lewis

Eli David Lewis died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Lewis was born in Mize and lived in Kissimmee, Fla., for 20 years. He was a retired custodian and employee trainer with the Walt Disney Company. He lived in Vicksburg for the past three years.

Mr. Lewis was in the Navy during the Korean War. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Alice M. Stewart Lewis; and a brother, James Jenkins.

He is survived by a daughter, Terry Lynn Cortesi of Vicksburg; two brothers, Melvin Lewis of Fredericktown, Mo., and Claude Jenkins Sr. of Kissimmee; four sisters, Dorothy Portway of New Orleans, Shirley Sanford of Mount Olive, Faye Welch of Greenville and Peggy Frazier of Biloxi; and two granddaughters.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Cedar Hill Cemetery with Hospice Chaplains John Lanting and Frank Lescallette officiating.

Visitation will be at Fisher Funeral Home from noon Monday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Milton Johnson, Glen Jenkins, Shorty Jenkins, Timothy Jenkins, Peanut Jenkins, James Jenkins and Brandi McAllister.

Juanita C. Sevier

TALLULAH Juanita C. Sevier died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at the Madison Parish Hospital. She was 88.

Mrs. Sevier was born in Holly Ridge, La., and had lived in Tallulah most of her life. She was retired from the City of Tallulah and was a homemaker.

She was a charter member of the Town and Country Club and was a member of First Baptist Church in Tallulah.

She is survived by a son, Jim D. Sevier of Tallulah; a brother, Dowell Capshaw of Leavenworth, Kan.; four grandchildren, Dana Ellis, James “Doug” Sevier, Lauren Sevier and Nancy Sevier; two great-grandchildren, Kody Ellis and Cameron Ellis; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Tallulah with Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery of Tallulah.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah.
