Nettie Bracey

Nettie Bracey died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at her home. She was 81.

Miss Bracey was a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church, where she served as president of the usher board. She was retired from GNB Battery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Nettie Crayton Bracey; six brothers, J.L. Jenkins, L.C. Maxey, John Bracey, Henry Bracey, Joe Bracey and Haywood Bracey; and three sisters, Alean Bracey, Essie D. Morgan and Easter Bracey.

Miss Bracey is survived by her sister, Lucille Bracey of Vicksburg; and nieces, nephews and friends, including Chandra King of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Clara Jones

Clara Jones died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 75.

A homemaker, Ms. Jones was a member of St. Luke M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Marvin Tubwell; her parents, Ben and Sarah Presley; her brother, Richard Presley; and her sister, Frances Presley.

Ms. Jones is survived by five sons, Clinter Caldwell of Chicago, Henry Jones of Houston, Texas, and Leon Presley, Sam Tubwell and Charles Tubwell, all of Vicksburg; five daughters, Ruby Parker, Theresa Tubwell and Marilyn Parson, all of Vicksburg, Jackie Tubwell of Jackson and Amanda Jones Winters of Aurora, Ill.; three brothers, David Bass and Willie Bass, both of Detroit, and Andrew Davis of Memphis; two sisters, Genevie Tate of Aurora and Lucy Williams of Seaside, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Clarence Brock McHan

Clarence Brock “Bob” McHan died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Heritage House Nursing Home. He was 77.

Mr. McHan was born in Choctaw County and had been a resident of Vicksburg for 40 years.

He was a World War II veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne Unit as a paratrooper. Mr. McHan was a self-employed cabinetmaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. McHan is survived by his wife, Arlin A. McHan of Vicksburg; three sons, Randy McHan of Stringer, and John McHan and Kenny McHan, both of Vicksburg; and seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Randy McHan and Dwight Sibley officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon Monday until the service.

Pallbearers will be David McHan, Matthew McHan, Tom McHan, Bryan Smith, Shannon McNeill and Doug Holman.

Willis Leonard Russell

DELHI Willis Leonard “W.L.” Russell died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2003. He was 89.

A resident of Delhi, Mr. Russell was a native of Carthage, Miss.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fonza Russell and Virgie Watkins Russell; his wife, Alma Lee Brownell Russell; and two daughters, Sue Guthrie and Jean Chennault.

He is survived by a daughter, Faye Purvis of Rayville, La.; one sister, Minnie Ray of Delhi; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Delhi with the Rev. Everett Geis officiating. Burial will follow at Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 tonight at the church.

Pallbearers will be Pete Collins, Lefty Russell, Jimmy Guthrie, Chip Simmons, Cal Purvis and Eric Evans.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Russell, Monty Collins, Mac Collins, Todd Chop, Larry Cooper, Larry McDonald and Buddy Guthrie.

Esther E. Schabilion

RICHMOND, Va. Esther R. Schabilion died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003. She was 81.

Ms. Schabilion was born in Charleston, Ill., where she lived until enlisting in the Marine Corps during World War II. She was a resident of Richmond, Va.

She worked with the Corps of Engineers for more than 30 years at the Red Rock Dam in Iowa and at the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg.

Survivors include her sister, Francis Knollenberg of Mattoon, Ill.; a son, Michael Thompson of Cincinnati; a daughter, Cynthia Allen of Mechanicsville, Va.; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at Whetstone Cemetery in Charleston.

Memorials may be made to the American Wildlife Federation or to the Handicapped Organization.
