Martha J. Lyons

Martha J. Lyons died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 68.

Born in Port Gibson, Ms. Lyons was a resident of Vicksburg. She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Williams; and her stepfather, Gabe Wilson.

Survivors include her mother, Margaret Wilson of Port Gibson; two sons, Zack Dotson of Beolit, Wis., and Willie Dotson of Port Gibson; two daughters, Erma Varando and Earnestine Dotson, both of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Antioch Christian Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Daniel Cook officiating. Burial will follow at McCaa Cemetery in Russum.

Visitation will be from noon until 5 p.m. Saturday at Rollins Funeral Home in Port Gibson.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Robert Lee Rockhill

Services for Robert Lee “Rock” Rockhill will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Roosevelt Mitchell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Rockhill died Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003, at his home. He was 62.

Mr. Rockhill was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Bailey Lumber Co.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester Sr. and Lucille Champion Rockhill; a brother, Albert Rockhill; and four daughters, Gwendolyn Lee Williams Rockhill, Lucille Rockhill, Rosemary Rockhill and Addie Rockhill.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Lee Brown Rockhill of Vicksburg; two daughters, Barbara “Jean” Williams Ross and Sharon “Shell” Williams, both of Vicksburg; three brothers, Sylvester Rockhill Jr. of Vicksburg, Gene Rockhill of Chicago and Sidney Rockhill of Atlanta; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Zula Travis Taunton

TALLULAH Zula Travis Taunton died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, in Tallulah. She was 82.

Mrs. Taunton had been a resident of East Carroll Parish for more than 65 years. She was a member of Melbourne Baptist Church and former manager of Ragland’s Boat Landing.

She was preceded in death by husbands, Oliver Edward Travis Sr. and Aulton Taunton; a son, Oliver Edward Travis Jr.; her parents, Henry and Hattie Acreman; four brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include a son, William Travis of Foley, Ala.; three daughters, Glynell Peterson of Pensacola, Fla., Sarah Hall of Houma, La., and Annette Cockrell of Hamburg, Ark.; a brother; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Melbourne Baptist Church in Transylvania with James Hayes and Leslie Yates officiating. Burial followed at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Monticello, La., under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Lake Providence.

Pallbearers were Wayne King, Robert Alberez, Kenneth King, Jimmy Muse, Talmadge Pearson and Danny Tucker.
