William Earl James

Services for William Earl James will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas M.B. Church, 4699 St. Thomas Road in Bolton.
Mr. James died as a result of a fall from the MV Lipscomb Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003. He was 48.
Mr. James was a native of Vicksburg and a resident of Clinton. He was employed as a cook on the Lipscomb. He was also a member of Stringer Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine James of Clinton; his parents, Geneva James Johnson and Roosevelt James, both of Vicksburg; three sisters, Geneva D. King of Huntsville, Ala., and Linda P. James and Samuelstine R. Howard, both of Vicksburg; two brothers, Aaron C. James of Jackson and Andrew James of Vicksburg; three aunts, including Bessie Dillard and Hazel Bell, both of Vicksburg; three uncles, including James Richardson of Vicksburg; and nieces and nephews.
Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home of Jackson has charge of arrangements.
Matthew Jones Lattimore Sr.
Matthew Jones Lattimore Sr. died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at his home. He was 69.
Mr. Lattimore was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church, Ballground. He retired as a bus driver from the Vicksburg Warren School District.
He is survived by two sons, Matthew J. Lattimore Jr. and Timothy Lattimore, both of Richmond, Va.; six daughters, Debbie Lattimore of Vicksburg and Gloria Jean Lattimore, Irish Lattimore, Brenda Lattimore, Gayl Lattimore and Regina Lattimore, all of Boston, Mass.; four brothers, Marshall Haynes, George Haynes, Ralph Haynes and Billy Ray Allen, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Anna Long of Chicago and Sophia Clark of Vicksburg; and grandchildren and other relatives.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Jackie Elton Marsh Sr.
OAK GROVE Jackie Elton Marsh Sr. died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Oak Woods Home in Mer Rouge, La. He was 55.
Born in Lake Providence, Mr. Marsh was a longtime resident of Oak Grove.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elton Robbie Marsh; his mother, Daisy Mae Marsh; and a brother, Lloyd Witt.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Stanley Marsh of Oak Grove; three daughters, Kim Davis and Michelle Moody, both of Oak Grove, and Sandy Minton of Conway, Ark.; one son, Jack Marsh Jr. of Oak Grove; three brothers, Leon Marsh and Hank Marsh, both of Seneca, Mo., and Joe Marsh of Liberty, Texas; five sisters, Laverne Jones of Seneca, Barbara Lou McLarrin of Magnolia, Texas, Bridgett Carter of Hillsboro, Ala., Yvonne Lively of Greenwell Springs, La., and Cookie James of Kingsburg, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cox Chapel in Oak Grove with the Revs. Jimbo Herring and Gayle Riles officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harvey Elliott, Archie Aultman, Shannon Alred, Stacy O’Neal, Johnny Berry and Rick Berry.
Leconte Deandria McGrew
PORT GIBSON Leconte Deandria McGrew died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at University Medical Center in Jackson as the result of an automobile accident. He was 21.
A graduate of Port Gibson High School, Mr. McGrew was a student at Hinds Community College. He was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church and was cast in the movie, “A Time to Kill.”
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Delois Buck McGrew.
Survivors include his parents, Angela McGrew and Louis Herring, both of Port Gibson; his grandfather, Andrew McGrew of Port Gibson; two brothers, Kelvin McGrew and Anthony Porter, both of Port Gibson; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Port Gibson with the Rev. Ray Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Springhill Cemetery in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at Rollins Chapel in Port Gibson.
Rosie Marie Gamble Nichols
FAYETTE Rosie Marie Gamble Nichols died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Natchez Regional Medical Center. She was 42.
Mrs. Nichols was a native of Adams County and a graduate of Jefferson County High School. She was a former secretary at Thames Automotive and Alcorn State University’s registrar’s office. She attended Salem Baptist Church, where she was a choir member.
Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her father, J.D. Gamble; her grandparents, A.J. and J.Z. Gamble; and her great-grandparents, Claude and Lucy Stampley.
Survivors include her mother, Bertha Marie Stampley of Fayette; her grandmother, Doris Wilson of Vicksburg; two daughters, Courtney Nichols and Lakisha Nichols, both of Fayette; two brothers, Edward Gamble and Larnell Gamble, both of Fayette; five sisters, Mary Jean Dixon, Sadie Gamble, Patricia Gamble, Deborah Gamble and Shirley Gamble, all of Fayette; and friends and other relatives, including Leon Nichols of Fayette.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pine Grove Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Percy Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home of Fayette.
Pallbearers will be Renaldo Smith, Terrance Cruel, Michael Harris, Jeremy Fakes, Terry Robinson and Alfred Chambliss.
Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Gamble, Donnell Gamble, Delgevon Gamble, Leon Nichols and Daniel Jennings.
Charlotte Nelson Whitt
Charlotte Nelson Whitt died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 72.
Born in Hamburg, Ark., Mrs. Whitt was a former resident of Tupelo and had lived in Vicksburg for a number of years. She was the daughter of the late Oscar F. and Ruby Estelle Ruff.
Mrs. Whitt was a former teacher at Warren Central High School and was a member of Verona United Methodist Church in Tupelo.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry L. Whitt of Vicksburg; four daughters, Nancy L. Bullard of Vicksburg, Linda N. Corty of Macon, Ga., Jane N. Watkins of Peachtree City, Ga., and Dana N. Hall of Durham, N.C.; one sister, Edith Ruff Wilkerson of Vicksburg; two brothers, Col. Jack Ruff of Greenwood and Doyle Ruff of Bastrop, La.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Rooney, pastor of Verona United Methodist Church, officiating. Family burial will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Masonic Cemetery in Rayville, La.
Visitation will be from 12:30 Saturday until the service.
