Pansy Ruth Maggio Miller

Pansy Ruth Maggio Miller, formerly of Vicksburg, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas. She was 73.

A native of Electric Mills, Mrs. Miller was the daughter of the late Dike and Daisy Ridgon Ryan. She owned and operated Tasty Food Shop for a number of years and had lived in Hurst, Texas, for the past 11 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerome Stuart “Jerry” Miller.

She is survived by a son, Joe Maggio of Port Gibson; two sisters, Jean Beauman of Vicksburg and Ruby Wilbanks of Fort Worth, Texas; a grandson, Stuart Miller III of New Orleans; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home with Sidney Beauman officiating. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Kutter Grover, Levi Bradford, Cody Bradford, J.R. Robinson, Bumper Brogdon and Michael Beauman.

Honorary pallbearer will be Stuart Miller III.

Aylmer Ray Patterson

LAKE PROVIDENCE Aylmer Ray Patterson died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, at Richland Parish Hospital in Delhi. He was 84.

Mr. Patterson was born in Farmerville, La., and graduated from Farmerville High School in 1935. He served with the Third Army Field Artillery in the European Theater, receiving the Bronze Star for meritorious service.

He worked with Logan Seed Co. in Caddo Parish after graduating from Louisiana Tech University. He also worked for Tyner-Petrus Wholesale Seed in West Monroe, Farmer’s Seed & Feed Store in Lake Providence and Terral-Norris Seed Co. in Eudora, Ark. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa and Henry Aylmer Patterson; a brother, Carl Patterson; and a sister, Marie Patterson McTernen.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Edwards Patterson of Lake Providence; two daughters, Katherine Bradley and Jane Frith, both of Transylvania, La.; one son, Edward Patterson of Baton Rouge; a brother, Henry Warren Patterson of Lafayette, La.; three sisters, Chloe Pugh of Ruston, La., Annette Wade of Farmerville and Mary Ruth Futch of Arcadia, La.; and two grandsons.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Northside Church of Christ in Lake Providence with the Rev. V.W. Hayhurst and Woodrow Hudson officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Frith, Ricky Parker, Gary Parker, Jim Rhodes, Joe Wade, David Norris, David Tschabold and Tommy Swafford.

Honorary pallbearers will be John Terral, Quinton Fortenberry, Harvey Howington and Garrett Frith.

Thaddeus L. Sims

Thaddeus L. Sims died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 85.

Born in Jones County, Mr. Sims had been a Vicksburg resident since 1948. He was the son of Andrew Jackson and Ethel Nesom Sims and was a graduate of Soso High School. He served in the Army Air Corps at Barksdale Field during World War II, then transferred to Camp Shelby to manage the post exchange.

Mr. Sims worked as purchasing agent for O’Neill-McNamara Hardware Co. from 1948 until 1960 and served as a manufacturer’s representative for Smith & Wesson from 1960 until 1977. After retirement, he was employed with Mississippi Hardware Co.

He was a lifetime member of Eatonville Masonic Lodge and the Vicksburg-Warren Historical Society. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry Sims, Rudolph Sims, Durward Sims and Virgil Sims.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Sanders Sims of Vicksburg; a daughter, Linda Bess of Vicksburg; a son, Andrew L. “Andy” Sims of Gallman; two sisters, Edna Bryant of Hattiesburg and Linnie Chapman of Petal; two brothers, Robert E. Sims of Rawls Springs and James M. Smith of Petal; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Riles Funeral Home with Dr. John G. McCall officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Gallman Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Demos Markos Jr., Melina Markos-Turk, Thaddeus Andrew Markos, Daniel Loren Sims, Joel Leighton Sims and Paul Logan Sims.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glen McCaskill, Eric McCaskill, Dr. Henrik Kuiper, Dr. Daniel Edney, David Blackledge and members of the Boaz Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
