(11/22/03)Jejuan Brown looked like a man among boys Friday night.

Brown dropped 35 points and 10 rebounds as St. Andrews exploded in the second half for an 82-53 victory over St. Aloysius.

The Flashes’ Kyle Richards posted 18 points and seven rebounds, but his night was overshadowed by Brown’s. Standing nearly a head above the tallest St. Al player, Brown scored easy baskets in the lane all night. He finished a sparkling 17 of 21 from the field, but like a young Shaquille O’Neal, went only 1 of 5 from the free throw line.

“Obviously the size difference helps, but when Jujuan gets focused and wants to score, it’s going to be pretty tough to keep him from getting shots,” St. Andrew’s coach Todd Yates said.

The game was close through the first half with St. Andrew’s leading 31-25.

St. Al led 23-22 with 2:45 remaining in the second quarter, but the Saints finished the half on a 9-2 run.

St. Andrew’s switched to a half-court trap defense in the third quarter, and it made the difference in the game. The Saints went on a 17-0 run midway through the period to take a 48-28 lead and cruise the remainder of the game.

(G) St. Andrew’s 62, St. Al 40

St. Andrew’s relied on the strong inside play of Laci McCullough and the outside shooting of Maeve Wilson and Eleanore Hanlon in a blowout win.

St. Andrew’s began the game with a 16-0 run before the Lady Flashes’ Sarah Kerut buried a jumper with 1:50 remaining in the first quarter. It was all the breathing room the Lady Saints needed as they used their full-court press to give them baskets through most of the game.

“They’re very aggressive,” St. Al coach Paul Hayden said. “That’s the way they play. They just outhustled us.”

Fouls played a big difference as St. Andrew’s outshot St. Al 37-14 in free throw attempts. The Lady Flashes played in foul trouble as three of the five starters had four fouls in the third quarter.

McCullough scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for St. Andrew’s. Laura Beth Lyons paced the Lady Flashes with 13 points.

(B) PCA 51, G’ville Christian 41

Chip Lofton scored a career-high 19 points to lead a balanced Porters Chapel Academy scoring barrage.

Lofton went 9 for 13 from the field as the Eagles improved to 3-4.

Dan Ivey scored nine points, while Allen Cassell scored eight and Dean Hill scored seven.

(G) PCA 54, G’ville Christian 23

Annie Beaugh’s offensive performances keep getting better and better.

The Porters Chapel (9-2) sophomore scored a game-high 35 points as the Lady Eagles blew out Greenville. Allison Horn scored seven in the win.

“I expect her to score 25 a night,” said PCA coach Kevin Griffin, who added that opponents have switched to box-and-one and triangle-and-two defenses to stop Beaugh. “She thrives on someone playing her man-to-man.”
