[4/19/03]ETHEL It was a really Good Friday for St. Aloysius. Alex Frisbee and Jason Brown made sure of that.

They helped the Flashes beat Ethel 10-0 to clinch the first-round series in 10 innings without allowing a run.

“This is a step-by-step process,” St. Al coach Joe Graves said. “The next step will be a lot harder.”

The Flashes (14-5) will likely face Union, a 10-0 winner over Stringer in Friday’s opener, in the second-round series, Graves said. That series starts Friday.

Frisbee (7-1) allowed just four hits three of them infield singles while striking out six and walking one in the five-inning win. He also delivered a two-run single as the Flashes erupted for seven runs in the second inning.

Brown, who was homerless during the regular season, hit a full-count, two-run shot to right in the third inning. He also homered in Thursday’s 12-0 win at Bazinsky Field.

“We saw most of the pitchers (Thursday) night, so we knew what to expect,” Brown said. “When it was 3-2, I was expecting him to come with something, but I wasn’t expecting gut.”

Walker Hengst went 2-for-3 with an RBI double while Chad Cox and Charlie Amborn both added RBI doubles for the Flashes, who had six hits and made the most of six errors.

Freshman Matt McAdams (2-2), the first of three Ethel pitchers, took the loss.

The Tigers made two nifty snags in the first inning, but a three-base error on Drew Mazzanti’s fly ball to right followed by an error at short opened the door for the Flashes’ big second inning.

The Tigers (13-13) started one senior and one junior.

“They’re getting us on age,” Ethel coach Chris Schuster said. “They’re an older, better-hitting ballclub. We’re a below-average hitting team.”

Graves said his team has already exceeded expectations this season, but he’s not ready to stop yet.

“We’ve got to have a good week of practice,” he said. “We’ve got three more steps to go.”
