Donald Kent Amacker

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA. Donald Kent Amacker died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at his home in Denham Springs, La. He was 58.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Kent Amacker Jr. and Jane Amacker.

Survivors include five cousins, Bobby Amacker, Major Amacker and Mary Amacker Fortenberry, all of Lake Providence, Margaret Barham of Shreveport and Alice Amacker Higginbotham of Ruston, La.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Methodist Church in Lake Providence with the Rev. Bill McLain officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Providence City Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 until 2 p.m. today at the church.

Mamie Lee Funches Barnes

Mamie Lee Funches Barnes died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. She was 61.

Mrs. Barnes was a member of New Oak Ridge M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Barnes Jr.; a granddaughter, Kathy Marie Funches; and her parents, J.B. and Leonia Funches.

Survivors include her husband, Leroy Barnes Sr. of Edwards; three sons, J.B. Barnes and Kevin Barnes, both of Edwards, and Willie Barnes Sr. of Utica; four daughters, Bobbie Funches, Janice Barnes and Tammy Barnes, all of Vicksburg, and Angela Barnes of Edwards; and 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and other relatives.

Theodore Roosevelt Bingham Jr.

Theodore Roosevelt Bingham Jr. died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2003, at Happy Acres Home in Bonifay, Fla. He was 70.

He was a disabled Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theodore Roosevelt Bingham Sr., and a sister.

Survivors include his mother, Tennessee Faire Taylor of Vicksburg; a sister, Michele Smith of Vicksburg; and three brothers, Robert Bingham of Jacksonville, Fla., Henry Bingham of Springfield, Va., and Jerome Bingham of Memphis.

Bill W. Chambers

Bill W. Chambers died Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at his home. He was 53.

Mr. Chambers was a former member of Come and See M.B. Church in Port Gibson. He attended Richardson Elementary and Addison High School before moving to Los Angeles. He graduated from George Washington High School and attended Los Angeles Community College. He worked for the Teamsters Union before moving to Vicksburg, where he worked for the City for a number of years.

He is survived by a son, Bryan Chambers of California; a daughter, Portia Chambers of California; his mother, Laura B. Chambers of Vicksburg; his father, John Blanton Chambers Sr. of Los Angeles; three sisters, Martha C. Walker and Shirley A. Chambers, both of Vicksburg, and Jennie C. Jones of Jackson; four brothers, Eugene Chambers and Freddie L. Chambers, both of Pearl, Melvin D. Chambers of Jackson and John B. Chambers Jr. of Inglewood, Calif.; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including the Woods, Armstrong and Nash families.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 until 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Robert Donerson Jr.

Robert Donerson Jr. died today, Feb. 27, 2003. He was 76.

A resident of Chicago, Mr. Donerson was formerly of Vicksburg. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was a member of Living Word Christian Center in Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Donerson; a sister, Lela Mae Donerson; and a brother, Walter Donerson.

He is survived by his wife, Estell Donerson of Chicago; eight sons, Donald Donerson, Spencer Donerson and Darren Donerson, all of Chicago, Ronald Donerson, Robert Donerson III and Larry Donerson, all of Vicksburg, Carl Donerson of Washington, D.C. and Todd Donerson of Omaha, Neb.; five daughters, Mary Donerson Gaines of Vicksburg, Patricia Donerson of Detroit, Thea Donerson of Gary, Ind., and Linda Donerson Hardaway and Tricia Donerson Smith, both of Atlanta; grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Clifton Harris, Ann Williams and John Donerson, all of Vicksburg.

Laura Mildred Hancock

TALLULAH Laura Mildred Hancock died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Madison Parish Hospital. She was 95.

Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Hancock had lived in Tallulah for the past 64 years. She was a homemaker and member of First Baptist Church of Tallulah.

Survivors include two sons, Carl L. Hancock of Baton Rouge, La., and Ronald F. Hancock of Tallulah; two daughters, Betty Jane Lofton of Vicksburg and Patricia Cathcart of Concord, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tallulah.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, La.

William Odus Peeples

DUNCAN, Okla. William Odus Peeples died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at his home in Duncan, Okla. He was 64.

Mr. Duncan was born in Schlater, Miss., and lived in Vicksburg and the Valley Park community before moving to Oklahoma in 1995.

He is survived by Geraldine Peeples of Duncan; one daughter, Cheryl Robinson of Decatur, Texas; two sons, William Odus Peeples Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va., and Chuck Peeples of Fort Worth, Texas; a brother, Eddy Peeples of Vicksburg; a sister, Mary Crawley of Houston, Texas; and a number of grandchildren.
