Frank Hubbard Davis

DELTA Frank Hubbard Davis died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 84.

Born in Florence, Ala., Mr. Davis had lived in Vicksburg before moving to Delta. He was a Navy veteran, having served on the USS Ticonderoga during World War II. He had been a self-employed sign painter in Vicksburg and Las Vegas for more than 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Allen and Jimmie Winston Davis; a brother, William Thomas Davis; three sisters, Fannie Davis Splann, Walsie Davis Taylor and Margie Lee Davis Timlake.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Antoine Davis of Delta; a son, Daniel Frank Davis of Greenville, S.C.; a daughter, Donna Davis McDuff of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Tuesday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Linn McDuff, Brian McDuff, Alan Little, Mike Keen, Sonny Keen and Charles Antoine.

Ladell McKinney

DELHI Ladell McKinney died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe. She was 75.

Mrs. McKinney was born in GoForth, Texas, and had been a Delhi resident for a number of years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgel Inglet and Nelle Bell Teeler Inglet; two brothers, William Inglet and Clemens Inglet; and a son, Audrey Byron McKinney.

She is survived by her husband, Audrey A. “Buddy” McKinney of Delhi; a son, Gregg McKinney of Delhi; a daughter, Merrie Kay Beach of Delhi; one brother, Clifford Inglet of Prairie Lea, Texas; two sisters, Pearl Morris of Arlington, Texas, and Helen Inglet of San Marcos, Texas; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Delhi with Dr. Marcus Murphy officiating. Burial will follow at Delhi Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.

Pallbearers will be members of the Delhi Police Department.

Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and John Levels, Calvin McDowell, Charles Misita, Ed Rhodes, Otha Nielsen and Dr. George Edwards.

Visitation will be from 5 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Townsend Shows

MENDENHALL Townsend Shows died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at St. Dominic Memorial Hospital in Jackson. He was 54.

A resident of Mendenhall, Mr. Shows was self-employed. He was a member of Old Goodhope Primitive Baptist Church in Magee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Baker and Eva Lavina Cole Shows, and his wife, Lynda Sue Wheat Shows.

He is survived by one son, John Shows of Mendenhall; two daughters, Tanya Shows Duncan of Hernando and Leslie Shows Smith of Columbia; a brother, B.J. Shows of Vicksburg; three sisters, Webbie Hines of Richland, Sara Stalls of North Carolina and Lavina Stanford of Sumrall; and two grandchildren.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Old Goodhope Primitive Baptist Church. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee.

Helen B. Spells

TALLULAH Helen B. Spells died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. She was 87.

Mrs. Spells was born in Ida, La., and had lived in Tallulah most of her life. She worked at Lee’s Bakery and Delta Haven Nursing Home and retired as dietitian from Madison Parish Hospital.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Tallulah Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Floyd Spells; one daughter, Patsy Ruth Spells; and a grandson, Richard Samples.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Joyce Samples and Jeannie Collins, both of Tallulah; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Sabin officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bill Ziegler, Henry Hicks, Truman Collins, Stephen Collins, Curt Collins, Dave Collins and Danny Collins.

Carley Breland Wilson

BASSFIELD Carley Breland Wilson died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at his home in Bassfield. He was 86.

Mr. Wilson was born in Collins and was a former resident of Hattiesburg, moving to Bassfield in 1948. He served under Gen. George S. Patton in the four Armored Division of the 3rd Army in World War II. He received numerous medals for his participation in five major European battles.

He farmed and worked as a mechanic at Bassfield Sales & Service/Morton Auto Parts for 18 years. He retired in 1976 from Jefferson Davis County Hospital after nine years of service. He was a member of Bassfield Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Velma Ruth Wilson of Bassfield; one daughter, Jeanette Green of Bassfield; one son, Carley Michael Wilson of Jackson, formerly of Vicksburg; two brothers, Riley Wilson of Gautier and Barney Wilson of Wesson; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Saulters-Moore Funeral Home in Prentiss. Burial will follow at Bassfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5:30 until 9:30 tonight at the funeral home.
