James Berry

OAK GROVE James “D-Daddy” Berry died Sunday, Oct. 17, 2004, at Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop, La. He was 86.

Mr. Berry was a resident of Oak Grove.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Earline Berry; a daughter, Janice Edmonson; his parents, Joseph Scott Sr. and Frankie Mae Berry; two brothers, Bernis Berry and Pete Berry; and two sisters, Ollie Hall and Lillian Mae Jones.

Survivors include a son, Mike Berry of Oak Grove; two brothers, T.F. Berry and J.S. “Junior” Berry, both of Oak Grove; two sisters, Maynell Whittney of Jonesboro, Maine, and Etta Pittman of Forest; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were at 10 a.m. today at Forest Baptist Church with the Rev. Chad Ballard officiating. Burial followed at New Forest Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove.

Pallbearers were Perry Brantley, Tom Sharplin, Don Harris, Hatten Tuggle, Howard Ainsworth, Ronald Goodwin, Jack Hamilton, Bob Smith, Wayne Fortenberry and the deacons of Forest Baptist Church.

Honorary pallbearers were Bob Sanders and Curtis Butler.

Anne Lorraine Williams Edwards

BOLTON Anne Lorraine Williams Edwards died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. She was 60.

Mrs. Edwards was born in St. Louis, Mo., to Mr. and Mrs. Willie Williams. She moved with her family to Vicksburg, where she was a member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School and worked for the Hinds County Public Schools for more than 25 years.

For a number of years she had lived in Bolton, where she was a member and choir participant at Mount Olive M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Percy Edwards Jr.

Survivors include six daughters, Cheryl Annette Edwards, Patricia Jamison, Barbara McElroy, Linda Edwards, Gertrude McDougle and Lillie Lewis; seven sons, Darrell Percy Edwards, Rodney Wayne Edwards, Bruce Edwards, Brian Edwards, Kelvin Edwards, Vincent Edwards and Randolph Edwards; one sister, Lois Jean Williams; one brother, Willie Williams Jr.; 24 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and cousins and other relatives.

Services were at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olive M.B. Church with the Rev. Wayne Moore Jr. officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery under the direction of Bolton Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Joseph McDougle, David Jamison, Anthony McGee, Damascio Ayers, Terrance Williams and Ezelle Dotson.

Jessie Reed

Jessie “Man” Reed died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at his home. He was 56.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Reed was a member of the Baptist faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Sr. and Carrie Rodgers Reed; a brother, John Reed; and two sisters, Emma Reed and Mary Reed.

Survivors include a son, Raymond Reed of Vicksburg; four daughters, Theresa Reed, Jennifer Palmer, Barbara Goodman and Debra Reed, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Larry Reed of Vicksburg and Harry Reed Jr. of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Mildred McFelt of Vicksburg and Rosie Reed of San Francisco, Calif.; grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Samuel Lewis Swett

FORT MYERS, Fla. Samuel Lewis Swett died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2004, in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 76.

Mr. Swett was born in Vicksburg and received a bachelor’s degree in agricultural science from Mississippi State University. He worked as manager of a number of dairy cooperatives and was inducted into the Dairy Farmers Hall of Fame. He was a former member of St. John’s River Water Management District and a former board member of the Northeast Florida Regional Planning Commission. He was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Swett; and a brother, Howard Swett.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Swett of Fort Myers; three sons, Michael Swett, Doug Swett and Andy Swett, all of Fort Myers; a sister, Marjorie Zagorski of Vicksburg; eight grandchildren; and other relatives.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 30 at Iona-Hope Episcopal Church in Fort Myers.
