[6/14/04]Frances Sheffield doesn’t have a photo of her late husband, Staff Sgt. Frank E. Wilson Sr., holding their son Frank E. Wilson Jr. in his Air Force uniform.

That doesn’t mean she can’t see it any time she wants.

Sheffield sent her husband’s World War II service information and a picture of him to be registered in the Registry of Remembrances on the National World War II Memorial Web site.

The registry is an individual listing of Americans who contributed to the war effort. Information on any citizen who was a serviceman or worked on the homefront is eligible for submission.

Sheffield doesn’t regret sending the photo of her husband, who was an instrument specialist working primarily on B-52 bombers. “I’ll always have this one,” she says as she holds a printout of the photo. “And I’ve got others.”

The online registry lists a serviceman’s branch of service, hometown, activity and person who submitted the information. Veterans may be registered by clicking on a link on the memorial’s Web site.

The registry also includes Americans who are:

Buried in American overseas military cemeteries administered by the American Battle Monument Commission.

Memorialized on the American Battle Monument Commission Tablets of the Missing.

Listed on official War and Navy Department Killed in Service rosters now held by the National Archives and Records Administration.
