Juanese M. Raines

Juanese M. Raines died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. She was 75.
Mrs. Raines was born in Simpson County and had lived in Vicksburg since 1939. She was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District.
She was a member of Bovina Baptist Church and was formerly the secretary for Woodlawn Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Katie Matthews; and two brothers, Paul Matthews and Glen Matthews.
She is survived by her husband, W.W. Raines of Vicksburg; a son, Lee Raines of Kingsland, Ga.; two daughters Pam R. May of Vicksburg and Shelle Raines of Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Bobbie Harbin of Vicksburg, and a grandson, Justin May of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bovina Baptist Church with the Rev. Carl Barnes and the Rev. Chip Starnes officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from noon Monday until the service at Bovina Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be deacons of Bovina Baptist Church.
Mary Walley Simmons
NEW ORLEANS Mary Walley Simmons died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans. She was 55.
Ms. Simmons was born in Alabama and was a former resident of Natchez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nollie Walley and Quida Nell Busby Walley; and two brothers, James E. Walley and Jerry L. Walley.
She is survived by a daughter, Pam Stinespring of Vicksburg; a son, Bobby Simmons of Natchez; two brothers, Don Walley and Joe Walley, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Betty Jean Tarver of Natchez and Brenda Dawkins of Vicksburg; four grandchildren; and Billy Maxie of Ferriday, La.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in the Kingston community with the Rev. Arron McGuffee officiating. Burial will follow at Kingston Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at the funeral home from 3 until 5 this afternoon and from 9 a.m. Monday until the service.
Pallbearers will be George Tarver, Fairley Dawkins, James Tarver, Joe Morrow, Bill Busby and Donnie McIlwain.
Arlee S. Smith
Services for Arlee S. Smith will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel A.M.E. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday at Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 89.
A lifelong resident of Vicksburg, she was a seamstress and homemaker. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, where she was a former trustee and stewardess.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Smith; her parents, John and Mary Jane Smith; two sisters, Arnetta Jenkins and Beulah Smith; and a brother, George Jenkins.
She is survived by a son, William Smith of Atlanta; a daughter, Georgia Brown of Vicksburg; a sister, Myrtle Heard of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two grandchildren, Sharon Allen of Vicksburg and Lesley Bradshaw of Toronto, Canada; a great-grandchild; and other relatives, including the Kelly and McMurray families of California and the Weathersby family of Jackson.
Abe Winn
Services for Abe Winn will be at 10 a.m. Monday at New Rock of Ages M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.
Mr. Winn died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at River Region Medical Center. He was 95.
A resident of Vicksburg, he was a member and former trustee of New Rock of Ages M.B. Church.
Survivors include two grandchildren and other relatives.
