Lubertha Burnett Barnes
Lubertha Burnett Barnes died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 86.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Barnes was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Sodality.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathaniel Barnes Sr.; her father, Henry Burnett Sr.; her mother, Myra Savage; her stepmother, Pearl Burnett; a son, Nathaniel Barnes Jr.; a daughter, Sherry Barnes; a sister, Grace Burnett; and three brothers, Henry Burnett Jr., James Burnett and Grant Burnett.
Survivors include three sons, John Barnes of Vicksburg and Henry Barnes and Bobby Barnes, both of Washington, D.C.; three daughters, Leona Barnes Stringer and Bertha J. Barnes, both of Vicksburg, and Malinda Maston of Killeen, Texas; three sisters, Leona Burnett of Madison, Phyllis R. Brown of Des Moines, Iowa, and Malinda Cameron of Detroit; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Carlla Wester Burroughs
Carlla Wester Burroughs died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at Heritage House Nursing Home. She was 78.
A native of Sumrall, Mrs. Burroughs had lived in Vicksburg since 1946. She was a member of the Redwood Home Demonstration Club and Redwood United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Willard Burroughs Sr.; her parents, Lawrence and Rachel Turnage Wester; and two sisters, Rachel Vance and Lucretia Weatherford.
Survivors include two sons, Charles W. Burroughs Jr. of Vicksburg and Larry E. Burroughs of Redwood; five grandchildren, Lisa Sharpe, Angela Correro, Hillarie Steckler, Blaine Keen and Wes Burroughs; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Nicholson and Mark Rowlen officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Thursday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Kylan Love, David Keen, Carlos Prevost, Brian Oakes, Robert Barnes and Charles Hanks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Franklin, Keith Keen, Richard Bounds, Sonny Keen, Charles Hintson and Melvin Ragan.

Fannie Skelton Allen Crenshaw
BUTLER, Ala. Fannie Skelton Allen Crenshaw died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at her home in Butler, Ala. She was 86.
Mrs. Crenshaw was born in Choctaw County, Ala. She was a member First Baptist Church of Butler and had owned and operated many businesses.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, J.C. Allen and W.W. Crenshaw; a son, Henry Earl Allen; three brothers, Charlie Skelton, William Skelton and J.T. Skelton; and a sister, Ella S. Snow.
Survivors include two daughters, Margie Allen Richardson of Lavaca, Ala., and Maxine Allen Pace of Vicksburg; three sisters, Sara S. Majors, Annie B.S. Rouse and Claudine S. Littlepage, all of Mobile, Ala.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Bumpers Funeral Home in Butler with the Revs. Bobby Shipp, Micah Gandy and John Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow at Butler Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Q. Johnson Sr., Willie Franklin Sykes, Mike Moore, Derek Combs, Damon Pace and Ryan Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Evans, O.D. Mason, Chester Rentz, John A. Boney, Miller Ezell, Jerrald Gibson, the Rev. Micah Gandy, Tommy Jones, Mike Fondren and employees of Southern Care.
Clara Hodge Gullett
Clara Hodge Gullett died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at River Region West. She was 83.
Born in Madison Parish, Mrs. Gullett was a retired admissions director and assistant administrator of Delta Haven Nursing Home and Olive Branch Senior Care Center. She was a member of Mound Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Albert L. Gullett of Vicksburg; three sons, Charles H. Hodge Jr. of Houston, Texas, Ronald T. Hodge of South Korea and Donald R. Hodge of Mound; three daughters, Gloria Price and Louise Acuff, both of Vicksburg, and Janice Bassett of Inverness, Fla.; a sister, Grace Folk of Tallulah; four stepsons, Al Gullet Jr., John E. Gullet, Gregory T. Gullett and Ronald J. Gullett, all of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Rita Fowler of Vicksburg; 28 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mound Baptist Church with the Revs. Carl Barnes and James Busby officiating. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Lucille S. Jackson
KALAMAZOO, Mich. Lucille S. “Cil” Jackson died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at her home in Kalamazoo, Mich. She was 89.
Born in Warren County, Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a former member of Cedar Grove M.B. Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Jackson; and her mother, Mattie Smart.
Survivors include Willie Taylor Jr. of Kalamazoo; a cousin, Ora Anderson of Vicksburg; and others, including the Taylor, Foster, Beamon, Murphy, Anderson, Marolla, Mitchell and Smith families, all of Vicksburg.
Services will be at noon Thursday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. James Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Wanda M. Specht Norwood
Wanda M. Specht Norwood died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at River Region West. She was 68.
Born in Harvel, Ill., Mrs. Norwood was a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. She had been a registered nurse at Kuhn Memorial Hospital in Vicksburg.
She was preceded in death by her father, William Specht; a brother, Christopher Specht; and a son, Frank Joseph Norwood Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Frank Joseph Norwood Sr. of Vicksburg; a daughter, Vicky Tennant of Vicksburg; a son, William Norwood of Donaldsonville, Ark.; her mother, Corinne Specht of Harvel, Ill.; a sister, Darlene Fuchs of Farmersville, Ill.; a brother, Warren Specht of Ephrata, Penn.; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be at Fisher Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday with burial at Green Acres Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 Thursday night at the funeral home.
