Carrie Ruby Curtis Barlow
UTICA Carrie Ruby Curtis Barlow died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004, at her home in Utica. She was 91.
Mrs. Barlow was a member of Utica Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. With her husband, she operated and managed Barlow Farms.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nathaniel Coleman Curtis Jr. and Martha Anna Tompkins, and six siblings.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jewel Vernon “J.V.” Barlow of Utica; two daughters, Leverne B. Pfile of Indianapolis and Sharon K. Banks of Utica; a son, Jewel B. Barlow of Silver Springs, Md.; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Utica Christian Church with the Rev. Lucian Lee officiating. Burial will follow at Utica Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Utica.
Pallbearers will be Ed Parks, Lowell Mims, Lee Herron, Gene Gipson, Todd Boatman and Bob McGowan.
Honorary pallbearers will be Murray Griffin and Gene Griffin.
Memorials may be made to Utica Christian Church.
Calvin Castor Goodwin
PIONEER, La. Calvin Castor Goodwin died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 81.
Mr. Goodwin was a native of Simsboro, La., and a resident of Pioneer, La.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stone Wall and Annie Belle Goodwin, and a son, Roy Sheldon Goodwin.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Goodwin of Pioneer; five sons, Dan Goodwin of Oak Grove, Ronald Goodwin of Forest, La., Donald Goodwin of Darnell, La., Dwain Goodwin of Jerseyville, Ill., and Perry Goodwin of Ivan, Ark.; two daughters, Kira Silk of Oak Grove and Carla Goodwin of Pioneer; a sister, Vernie Markham of Springhill, La.; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Revs. Chad Ballard and Tommy Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at New Forest Cemetery in Forest.
Pallbearers will be Ray Franklin, Tom Sharplin, Larry Borden, Phillip Morris, Jerry Markham and Ron Seiger.
Rev. Willie Lee James Sr.
The Rev. Willie Lee James Sr. died today, Sept. 1, 2004, at his home. He was 61.
Rev. James was born in Warren County. He served as pastor of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church on Hannah Avenue and Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church at Eagle Lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Silas James Sr. and Fannie Lumpkin James, and a sister, Hattie J. Haynes.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia Gleese James of Vicksburg; three sons, Willie Lee James Jr. and Kendell D. James Sr., both of Vicksburg, and Malcolm D. James Sr. of Jonesboro, Ga.; four daughters, Angela C. James, Yolanda Y. Willis and Tammy A. Watts, all of Vicksburg, and Arlene L. Witter of El Paso, Texas; a brother, the Rev. Silas James Jr. of Chicago; a sister, Rosie Lee Versell of Vicksburg; 20 grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Johnnie Flaggs of Vicksburg.

Lifford L. Putman
OAK GROVE Lifford L. Putman died Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. He was 86.
Mr. Putman was born in Athens, Ala., and was a resident of Oak Grove.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Louise Putman; his parents, Viola and James Thomas Putman; two sisters, Carrie Davis and Katie Putman; and three brothers, Lester Putman, Yate Wallace Putman and Bud Putman.
He is survived by nine sons, Billy Myers, Donald Putman, Daniel Putman, Jerry Putman and Robert Putman, all of Oak Grove, Ed Putman of Bastrop, La., Glen Putman of Dry Prong, La., Bobby Putman of Amarillo, Texas, and Wesley Putman of Houston, Texas; three daughters, Carolyn Burch of Guntersville, Ala., Jeannie Ashworth of Pineville, La., and Cindy Davis of Little Elm, Texas; and 34 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Fiske Union Assembly of God Church with the Revs. Gary Phillips, Kevin D. Veazey and Annie Mae Farmer officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Randy Capers, Tommy Roberson, Darryl Williamson, Willie Ray Boyd, Eddie Stephenson and Chester Lucas.
