OAK GROVE Bertha L. Phillips died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2004, at West Carroll Memorial Hospital in Oak Grove. She was 70.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Bonita, La., and a resident of Oak Grove. She was a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Olan Thomas Phillips; a daughter, Venalee Ann Monk; her parents, Clarence F. and Maggie Lou Baggs; three brothers, Henry Baggs, Willie Baggs and Harvey Baggs; and a sister, Elsie Strange.

Survivors include three daughters, Alberta Love and Betty Guinn, both of Oak Grove, and Sheila Riddell of El Dorado, Ark.; a son, Rosavel Monk of Pearl; three brothers, Billy Baggs of Longdale, Okla., Orville Baggs of JaQuin, Texas, and John Baggs of Odessa, Texas; two sisters, Grethal Oliver of Coushatta, La., and Ruth Clark of Edwards; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Annie Mae Farmer and Donald Ray Young officiating. Burial will follow at McGaha Memorial Cemetery in Red Wing, La.

Pallbearers will be Junior Sherman, Ricky Compton, Donald Young, Clarence Strange, Willie Strange and Larry McCowan.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Dye and Tim Parker.

Dr. Henry Dobbs Pope

PORT GIBSON Dr. Henry Dobbs Pope died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 62.

Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Dr. Pope was reared in Montgomery, Ala., and was a resident of Port Gibson. He received his master of divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Ga., and his doctor of ministry from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville.

He retired in 2004 after serving at First Presbyterian Church in Cullman, Ala., Hermitage Presbyterian Church in Hermitage, Tenn., and Faith Presbyterian Church in Huntsville, Ala. He attended First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ruth Mansell Pope of Port Gibson; two sons, William Henry Pope of Huntsville and Randall Blair Pope of Fort Walton, Fla.; a daughter, Ruth Steffen Wilson of Lexington, Ky.; a brother, Dr. Hunter Vaughan Pope of Birmingham, Ala.; his mother, Ruth Cooley Steffan of Montgomery; and three grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Faith Presbyterian Church in Huntsville. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Cheryl Hunt Wade

GARY, Ind. Cheryl Hunt Wade, formerly of Rolling Fork, died Friday, Sept. 10, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Gary, Ind. She was 36.

Mrs. Wade was a resident of Gary and was a communications specialist.

She is survived by her husband, Roosevelt Wade of Gary; two sons, Nicholas Pinkins and Zachary Wade, both of Gary; a daughter, Lakizzie Sherman of Gary; her father, George Hall of Delta City; her mother, Georgia B. Hall of Rolling Fork; her stepfather, Calvin Washington of Rolling Fork; four brothers, Nick Hunt of Memphis, Artis Hunt of Marietta, Ga., Josiah Hunt of Bullhead, Ariz., and Anton Sardin of Delta City; and three sisters, Janet Bell of Memphis, Myrtis Pinkins of Rolling Fork and Crystal Hunt of Panther Burn.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at South Delta High School auditorium in Rolling Fork with Ronald McMillian officiating. Burial will follow at Dan Over Cemetery in Egremont under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the school.

Sharonda Williams

ROLLING FORK Sharonda Williams died Saturday, Sept. 11, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 21.

Miss Williams was a resident of Rolling Fork.

She is survived by her father, Jerry Cooper of Rolling Fork; her mother, Brenda Williams of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Amiricle T-Dasia Waller of Rolling Fork; three brothers, Jereale Cooper, LaJeryl Cooper and Maurice Knight, all of Rolling Fork; and six sisters, Jacqueline Williams, Amanda Williams, Cheyenne Williams and Belinda Williams, all of Milwaukee, Marketta Moore of Rolling Fork and Veronica Jenkins of Louise.
