Calvin Wren of Clear Creek Golf Course removes dirt from green 8 Tuesday in Bovina as work begins to remove fungus from the course and rebuild the front nine holes. Golf pro Randy Tupper said about 2,500 cubic yards of dirt and 8 inches of soil will be removed from some of the greens. Some phases of construction should end in June with the front nine holes reopening in October, Tupper said. The 26-year-old golf course was diagnosed this year with a fungus called Bermuda grass decline that forms black lesions on grassroots.
