Louise E. Armstrong

ST. JOSEPH Louise E. Armstrong died Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Olive Branch Senior Care Center in Tallulah. She was 92.

Born in Benton, Ark., Mrs. Armstrong had been a resident of St. Joseph for 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Ernest L. Armstrong of St. Joseph; a daughter, Mary Jo Sivils of Collinston, La.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Bryan officiating. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at New Hope Cemetery in Jones, La., under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Dorothy Alley Boose

Dorothy Alley Boose died today, March 12, 2004, at her home. She was 83.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Boose was a homemaker and a member of Cool Springs M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Boose; her parents, David Maxwell and Beulah Davis Maxwell; and three sisters, Thelma Warren, Maxine M. Bunch and Sarah Burns.

Survivors include a son, Charles Boose of Greenville; a niece whom she reared, Yasmine A. Page of Vicksburg; four brothers, Donald Maxwell and Dale Maxwell, both of Vicksburg, Richard Maxwell of Clarksdale and Milton A. Maxwell of Carbondale, Ill.; a sister, Dellora M. Bosley of Vicksburg; and other relatives and friends, including Zelmarine Murphy and Patricia A. Segrest of Vicksburg.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth Flowers

UTICA Services for Elizabeth Flowers will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Second Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Reed officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Westhaven Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday until the service at the church.

Mrs. Flowers died Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the home of her granddaughter in Vicksburg. She was 95.

A resident of Utica, Mrs. Flowers was a retired farmer and an usher and mother at Second Union Baptist Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho and the Baptist Aide Program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Susie and George Martin; two daughters, Doretha Davenport and Sadie Lee Burns; five brothers, Glover Cleveland, Charlie Martin, George Martin Jr., Wesley Martin and Ruthel Martin; four sisters, Ella C. Taylor, Melaine Evans, Eliza Price and Ida Mae Thomas; and a grandson, Eugene Deyamport Jr.

Survivors include her husband, Charlie Flowers of Utica; two granddaughters whom she reared, Deloris Jones of Freeport, N.Y., and Sadie Deyamport of Vicksburg; three great-grandchildren whom she reared, Gloria Stang of Uniondale, N.Y., Marilyn Appleton of Freeport and Larry Flowers of Vicksburg; eight great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends, including the Martin, Brent, Burn, McGowan, Sanders, Thomas, Neal and Taylor families.

Bernice Jackson

Services for Bernice Jackson will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Williams Funeral Service.

Mrs. Jackson died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Jackson was a member of St. Mark Freewill Baptist Church. She was a retired domestic worker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jackson; her parents, Jim and Lucinda Clark; two brothers, Charles Clark and Andrew Clark; four sisters, Willie Mae Adams, Josephine Williams, Ann Sweezer Scott and Melissa Wince; and two sons, Henry Jackson and Austin Jackson.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary J. Ballard of Milwaukee, Wis., and Henrietta Ellis of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Arnel Clark and Emma Culkin, both of Vicksburg; and grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nathan Jones

Services for Nathan Jones will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at Mount Carmel M.B. Church with the Rev. Franklin Lassiter officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 88.

Mr. Jones had worked at Beechwood Restaurant. He was a member of Mount Carmel M.B. Church and a veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson Jones and Mary Banks.

Survivors include Rachel Bingham of Vicksburg; a daughter, Dorothy Mitchell of Milwaukee, Wis.; one brother, Lee Otha Jones of Rockford, Ill.; one sister, Belinda Webb of California; four grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Josephine Roland Meeks

Services for Josephine Roland Meeks will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the service at the church.

Mrs. Meeks died Monday, March 8, 2004, at her home. She was 100.

Born in Bovina, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Meeks Sr.; four sons, Louis Meeks, Jr., Oliver Meeks, Edgar Meeks and Theodore Meeks; two daughters, Olivia N. Lindsey and Vera Meeks Lee; her parents, Edgar Roland and Mary Baker; and an aunt who reared her, Evelyn Zander.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond L. Meeks, Newton Meeks and James H. Meeks, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Josie B. Meeks Orr of Pomona, Calif., Gladys Meeks Hackett of Sacramento, Calif., and Dorothy Meeks and Lois Meeks Shields, both of Vicksburg; 53 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including the Jones and Harper families.
