[3/12/04]Warren Central coach Randy Broome played prep baseball at Tara High School in Baton Rouge, La., before eventually making his way into Mississippi.
Through the years, Broome has stayed in touch with a former teammate, Jamie Longmire, who is now an assistant coach for the Trojans.
This weekend they get to find out who will hold bragging rights.
“We’d been talking about it I guess back in the summer,” Broome said. “We had an open spot on our schedule, and they decided they wanted to come up this weekend.”
Tara comes to town tonight to face Vicksburg High at 7. Warren Central will host Tara in a Saturday doubleheader that begins at noon.
Broome said his alma mater struggled last year, but the Trojans have jumped out to a 6-1 start this season.
“They were young last year and took some bumps in the road. This year they feel like they’re going to play pretty good baseball,” Broome said. “They’re trying to get their schedule more competitive. Hopefully, us and Vicksburg will give them that competitiveness they were looking for.”
