[12/22/04]A Vicksburg woman is without a home for the holidays after a fire, the fourth in the city in four days, damaged her home Tuesday.

Cenetta Funches sat barefoot after the fire forced her from the home at 825 Meadow St. where she had lived for four years. She said she didn’t know where she would go, but spent the night at a local motel.

“I was in the bedroom on the phone and I heard something pop in the front room,” Funches said. “When I got off the phone, I went to check on it, and I met the smoke.”

Funches escaped through a back door.

Vicksburg Fire Department Investigator Leslie Decareaux said the fire was accidental and apparently started from a lamp in the living room.

The house was heavily damaged by fire, smoke and water.

While arson is suspected in two of the city’s fires reported since Saturday night, Fire Chief Keith Rogers said that is not likely the case in Tuesday’s fire.
