C.W. Hawkins Jr.

OAK GROVE C.W. “Ropo” Hawkins Jr. died Friday, April 23, 2004, at M.D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. He was 70.

Born in Shaw, Miss., Mr. Hawkins had been a resident of Oak Grove for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C.W. Sr. and Selma Walker Hawkins; a son, David Hawkins; two sisters, Rena Frazier and Willie Mae Hawkins; and four brothers, Walter William Hawkins, Willie Payne Hawkins, Charles Hawkins and Johnny Hawkins.

Survivors include his wife, Janie Hawkins of Oak Grove; one son, Dwayne Hawkins of Houston; three daughters, Judy Hawkins of Oak Grove, Carla Ainsworth of West Monroe and Sabrina Didier of Kingwood, Texas; two brothers, Billy Wayne Hawkins of Waynesboro, Tenn., and Donald Hawkins of Bastrop, La.; four sisters, Anne Causey of Greenville, Dorothy Evans of Benton, La., Linda Ainsworth of Bastrop and Betty Rice of Seminole, Texas; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Goodwill Baptist Church in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jimmy Herring officiating. Burial will follow at Red Wing Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Causey, Michael Hawkins, Don Hawkins Jr., Brandon Jenkins, Darwin Thornhill and Jason Thornhill.

Minnie Hoye Johnson

Services for Minnie Hoye Johnson were at 11 a.m. today at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert L. Miller officiating. Burial followed at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Tuesday, April 20, 2004, at her home. She was 87.

Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Abe Johnson.

She is survived by one son, Alvin Johnson of Vicksburg; one nephew, Walter Crums, and two nieces, Bertha James and Evelyn Burks, all of Vicksburg.

Donald Sneed

Donald Sneed died Friday, April 23, 2004, in Memphis. He was 41.

Mr. Sneed had attended Cool Spring M.B. Church. He was a cosmetologist and interior office designer.

He is survived by his parents, Essie and Doretha Ware Sneed of Vicksburg; a stepdaughter, Desiare Sneed of Memphis; three brothers, Estes Sneed of Vicksburg, Delbert Sneed of Gulfport and Victor Sneed of Atlanta; three sisters, Kathy S. Johnson and Lora Harris, both of Gulfport, and Pearl Akama of Carson, Calif.; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Rufus Clark Walters

LITTLE ROCK, Miss. Rufus Clark Walters died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Alliance Laird Hospital. He was 85.

Born in Neshoba County, Mr. Walters had lived in Newton County most of his life. He had been a member of Beulah Baptist Church since 1948 and was a member of the American Legion and International Brotherhood of Teamsters.

A retired farmer, Mr. Walters was a former driver for Miller Transporters. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Military Police from 1941 until 1944.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Laurine Blass Walters; his parents, John Thomas and Missouri Lee Weatherford Walters; five brothers, Preston Walters, Tom Walters, Carlie Walters, Clearman Walters and Covert Walters; and four sisters, Lura Gordon, Julia Dallas, Dorothy Wright and Doris Meyer.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Reeves Walters of Little Rock, Miss.; one daughter, Charlotte Walters Bryan of Little Rock; one son, Danny Wayne Walters of Vicksburg; two stepsons, Randy Reeves and Roger Reeves, both of Meridian; five grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Barham Funeral Home in Newton with Dr. David Rives officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Wade Walters, Kerry Walters, Daron Walters, Joel Walters, Ronald Walters and Donald Walters.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Graham, Roger K. Harrison, Cebron Gordon, Don Laird, Hubert Hall, Bobby James and Chaney Motley.
