[12/10/04]Wednesday’s heavy rain made Balzli Field a quagmire Thursday night, but the bad field did little to slow down the St. Aloysius Lady Flashes.

Andrea Harrison scored four goals and eighth-grader Haley Davis netted three to lead the Lady Flashes’ onslaught.

“We’ve had some tough losses this year, losses we never should have had,” St. Al coach Karen Carroll said. “We got a chance to get all our seventh graders in tonight. Everybody played and that was good.”

Harrison started the scoring 30 seconds into the game, then added two more quick goals as the Lady Flashes led 3-0 less than 10 minutes into the first half.

Davis’ first goal midway through the first half gave St. Al a 4-0 lead, and Krista McCollum added a goal with 16:35 left in the half for a 5-0 advantage.

St. Al outshot Cathedral 35-3.

“We had a nice opportunity to get a little cushion and get a lot of people in the game,” Carroll said. “It’s been difficult because the boys play right after us and we don’t have a chance to get any JV games in.”

The second half started the same as the first with Davis finding the back of the net 3 1/2 minutes in, extending the hosts’ lead to 6-0.

Davis scored again two minutes later and Harrison added her fourth goal two minutes after that for an 8-0 lead.

Cathedral had few quality scoring chances, but with 21 minutes to play in the game, Kalin Kirkwood found the back of the net to end the shutout.

The two teams slogged around in the mud the rest of the way, neither able to score any more goals.
