Dennis Swanson Ball

WINNFIELD, La. Dennis Swanson Ball died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Winn Parish Medical Center in Winnfield, La. He was 70.

Mr. Ball was a resident of Winnfield. He retired from International Paper Company after 36 years. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Dodson Road Hunting Club and East Winnfield Baptist Church, where he was a deacon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry M. and Verlyn Sanders Ball.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Yvonne Coonce Ball of Winnfield; a daughter, Denise Ball Mitchell of Vicksburg; two sons, the Rev. Jerry Ball of Asheville, N.C., and Johnny Ball of Slidell, La.; a sister, Shirley Bufkin of Crystal Springs; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield with the Revs. Tommy Smith and Pat Bufkin officiating. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. at Newton Baptist Church Cemetery in Delhi.

Visitation will be from 7 until 9 tonight and from 8 a.m. Wednesday until the service at the funeral home.

Julia Mae Broome

UTICA Julia Mae Broome died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Central Mississippi Medical Center. She was 75.

A resident of Utica, Mrs. Broome was a member of St. Peter M.B. Church.

She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Charles T. Broome of Utica; stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Lakeview Memorial Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Wallace Lee Posey Sr.

PIONEER Wallace Lee Posey Sr. died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe. He was 48.

Born in Delhi, Mr. Posey was a resident of Pioneer.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Posey of Pioneer; three sons, Wallace Lee Posey Jr. of Lake Providence and Jeffrey Wayne Posey and Clifton Ray Posey, both of Pioneer; his parents, Hollie and Mary Alice Posey of Lake Providence; three sisters, Alice Joyce Herrington of Delhi and Sindy Price and Jean McDonald, both of Columbia, La.; and a grandson, Kaleb Lee Posey of Lake Providence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Jeff Sykes officiating. Burial will follow at New Forest Cemetery.

Ivy Sanaa Shelby

ROLLING FORK Ivy Sanaa Shelby, infant daughter of Perry Edward of Clarksdale, Tenn., and Takeshia Shelby of Rolling Fork, died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at River Oaks Hospital in Jackson.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Jordan Freeman of Rolling Fork.

Services were scheduled for 1 p.m. today at Vicks Cemetery in Anguilla with Henry Wilson officiating. Burial was to follow under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.

Mary Tolliver

Mary “Sister” Tolliver died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 82.

Mrs. Tolliver was a resident of Vicksburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Tolliver; her parents, Silas and Ella Davis Harris; six brothers; and a sister.

Survivors include four sons, Charlie J. Tolliver, Larry Tolliver and Silas Tolliver, all of Vicksburg, and Robert Bill Tolliver of Edwards; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives, including the Miller, Davis and Harris families.

Robbins Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.

Martha Scott Walker

LORMAN Martha Scott Walker died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. She was 75.

Born in Jefferson County to the late Terry and Elizabeth Woodson Scott, Mrs. Walker was a resident of Lorman. She was a homemaker and a member of The Awesome Christ Warriors Outreach Tabernacle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quitman Walker Sr.; a brother; and two sisters.

Survivors include four sons, Willie Frank Scott of Red Lick, Quitman Walker Jr. and Robert Walker, both of Port Gibson and Larry Walker of Cape Giradeau, Mo.; eight daughters, Frances Parson, Dorothy Middleton and Gloria Gray, all of Red Lick, Emma Walker of Sikeston, Mo., Elizabeth Morgan of Lasings, Kan., Faye Jones and Vivian Walker, both of Kansas City, Mo., and Kayla Walker of Fayette; a brother, Willie Scott of Detroit; three sisters, Suzanne Carroll of Vicksburg and Gertrude Freeman and Lucinda Massey, both of Sacramento, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

Services were scheduled for 1 p.m. today at East Mount Olive Baptist Church in Fayette with the Rev. Chester Watts officiating. Burial was to follow at East Mount Olive Cemetery in Red Lick under the direction of Rollins Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were to be Eddie Brown, Ray Gibson and Tommy Wilson.
