Aaron Cosby Sr.

Services for Aaron Cosby Sr. will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Travelers M.B. Church with the Rev. Willie Hardy officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation with Masonic rites will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Mr. Cosby died Monday, March 8, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 89.

A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Cosby was a member and deacon of Mount Pisgah M.B. Church. He retired from Waterways Experiment Station after 33 years of service. He was a member of Broadwater No. 55 F&AM Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by a son, Arnold Cosby; a daughter, Shirley Marie Cosby; his parents, David Cosby and Theresa Cosby; and a brother, George LaCroix.

Survivors include his wife, Ernestine Miller Cosby of Vicksburg; four sons, Aaron Cosby Jr., Milton Cosby, Bennie Cosby and Hyman Cosby, all of Vicksburg; two daughters, Annie Lucille Smith of Vicksburg and Frances Selena Reed of Belzoni; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including Hazel Edwards of LaPuente, Calif.

Silas J. Dose

ANAHEIM, Calif. Silas J. Dose died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, in Anaheim, Calif. He was 76.

Mr. Dose is survived by his wife, Inella Dose of Anaheim; two sisters, Vivian Evans of Dallas, Ga., formerly of Vicksburg, and Mary Rogers of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; and six grandsons.

Services were at Calvary Temple of Orange, Calif. Burial followed at Crestlawn Memorial Park in Riverside, Calif., under the direction of Hilgenfeld Mortuary of Anaheim.

Sgt. Walter Samuel Dose Sr.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. Sgt. Walter Samuel Dose Sr. died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lake City, Fla. He was 86.

Sgt. Dose was born in Satartia and moved to Gainesville, Fla., from Tampa in 1996. He was a retired teacher and first sergeant for the Army. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

A master gardener, he taught at Blake High School in Tampa for more than 10 years and was a member of the Classroom Teachers Association. He was a member and deacon at Covenant Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Elinor McNeal Dose of Gainesville; two daughters, Elinor Pearson of Gainesville and Linda Heidler of Denton, Texas; four sons, Tim Dose of Tampa, David Dose of Gainesville, Sam Dose of Clemmons, N.C., and Mark Dose of McDonough, Ga.; two sisters, Vivian Evans of Dallas, Ga., formerly of Vicksburg, and Mary Rogers of Prescott Valley, Ariz.; a brother, Silas Dose of Anaheim, Calif.; and 23 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services were handled by Williams-Thomas Funeral Home of Gainesville.

Michael Jay Jackson Jr.

Michael Jay Jackson Jr., infant son of Kenette Hall and Michael Jackson of Vicksburg, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Sherry Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Damio Moore Jr. and Kevon Moore, both of Vicksburg; a sister, Ke’Yonna Moore of Vicksburg; his paternal grandparents, Michael C. Jackson and Dorothy Jackson of Vicksburg; and his maternal grandparents, Jovita Hall, Roderick Williams Sr. and James K. Blackmore, all of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Burial will follow under the direction of Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home.

Josephine Roland Meeks

Services for Josephine Roland Meeks will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul M.B. Church in Bovina with the Rev. Tyrone Dixon officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Meeks died Monday, March 8, 2004, at her home. She was 100.

Born in Bovina, she was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Meeks Sr.; four sons, Louis Meeks, Jr., Oliver Meeks, Edgar Meeks and Theodore Meeks; two daughters, Olivia N. Lindsey and Vera Meeks Lee; her parents, Edgar Roland and Mary Baker; and an aunt who reared her, Evelyn Zander.

Survivors include three sons, Raymond L. Meeks, Newton Meeks and James H. Meeks, all of Vicksburg; four daughters, Josie B. Meeks Orr of Pamona, Calif., Gladys Meeks Hackett of Sacramento, Calif., and Dorothy Meeks and Lois Meeks Shields, both of Vicksburg; 53 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including the Jones and Harper families.
