[12/1/04]Facing a road trip that will see St. Aloysius play on the road every game from now until Jan. 13, the Lady Flashes decided to spend a little extra time in their last home game of 2004.

Loyd Star outscored St. Al 14-3 in the second overtime for a 79-68 victory on Tuesday night.

St. Aloysius, which was playing its second home game of the season, will not return home again until a game against the Mississippi School for the Deaf in mid-January.

“We have to travel. We have no choice,” first-year St. Al coach Drew McBrayer said.

The Lady Flashes nearly started the road trip in fine fashion.

Bonney Neill sank two free throws in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime, and Ellen McCaa hit a baseline jumper in the final second of overtime to send the game into a second overtime.

It was then that Loyd Star took control.

Jordan Britt scored 10 of her game-high 40 points in the second overtime and the Lady Hornets outscored St. Al 14-3 to secure the victory.

Britt and St. Al sophomore Sarah Kerut went toe-to-toe most of the night. Kerut poured in 32 points and Kaitlyn Ellis scored 11 to pace the Lady Flashes (1-4).

“Foul trouble just killed us,” McBrayer said. “We were out there with three freshmen and two sophomores on the floor.”

“I think our boys are still on Thanksgiving break,” McBrayer said. “I don’t know what their deal was. They went completely brain dead tonight.”
