Dora Mae Aaron

LYTLE, Texas Dora Mae Aaron died Thursday, July 8, 2004, in Nachogdoches, Texas. She was 87.

Mrs. Aaron was born in Monticello, Ark., to the late Ernest Preston Haynes and Maude Belle Straughn.

She is survived by a brother, Frank Haynes of Mobile, Ala.; a son, Travis Aaron of Blackseer, Ga.; a daughter, Mary Annette Bryan of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church in Oak Grove, La., with the Rev. Leslie Yates, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Macedonia Cemetery.

Benton W. Groves

Benton W. Groves died Monday, July 5, 2004, at George County Hospital in Lucedale. He was 88.

Mr. Groves was born in Jefferson County, where he lived and worked as a chiropractor. He lived in Vicksburg for 45 years until moving to Lucedale two years ago. He was a retired soils technician for Waterways Experiment Station. He served in the Army during World War II. Mr. Groves was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He is survived by three sons, Wylie Groves of Lucedale, Boyd Russell Groves of Kansas City, Kan., and Ben Groves of Vicksburg; two daughters Kate Dahl-Buhl and Jo Borup-Buhl, both of Idaho; and 16 grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 9 a.m. Monday until the service.

Pallbearers will be Nobe Robertson, Kent Dahl, Ben Groves, Boyd Russell Groves, Weston Groves and Joshua Groves.

Honorary pallbearer will be Harold “Shorty” Nicholson.

Daniel James Henley

Daniel James Henley died Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was 59.

Mr. Henley was a graduate of Murrah High School and attended Ole Miss and Millsaps. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. Mr. Henley was a native of Jackson and lived in Pattison for the past 20 years.

He is survived by his parents, Oscar and Cleo Porter Burris of Jackson; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sarepta Cemetery in Claiborne County with Glenwood Funeral Home in charge.

Harry McGuffee

FLORENCE Harry McGuffee died Thursday, July 8, 2004 in Florence. He was 57.

He was a native of Vicksburg, where he was a graduate of Culkin High School and a retired switchman, brakeman and conductor for the Illinois Central Railroad. He moved to Clinton, where he was a baseball coach. He moved to Florence in 1994 and owned 5 Star Auto Sales. Mr. McGuffee was a member of Southside Assembly of God, where he sang in the choir and was involved in foreign missions to South and Central America.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte “Penny” McGuffee of Florence; three sons, Trey McGuffee of Knoxville, Tenn., Travis McGuffee of Ridgeland and Gabe McGuffee of Brandon; three brothers, Albert McGuffee and Wayne McGuffee, both of Terry, and Cecil McGuffee of Morton; six sisters, Marie Johns and Bobbie Abraham, both of Clinton, Shirley Riddle of Vicksburg, Eileen Ring of Atlanta, Wanda Wilkerson of San Antonio and Carrie McGuffee of Jackson; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Southside Assembly of God in Jackson. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Memorial Park in Florence.
