Mary Thomas Callen

ANGLETON, Texas Mary “Edna” Thomas Callen died Monday, March 8, 2004, in Angleton, Texas. She was 89.

Mrs. Callen was a resident of Angleton.

Survivors include a great-nephew, Chris Callen of Vicksburg; and a great-niece, Tracey Callen Evans of Vicksburg.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Angleton with the Rev. Chris Tate officiating. Burial will follow at Restwood Memorial Park in Lake Jackson, Texas, under the direction of Palms Funeral Home of Angleton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

John Brabston Cook Sr.

FLOWERS John Brabston Cook Sr. died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at his home in Flowers. He was 76.

Mr. Cook was born in Vicksburg. He graduated from Jefferson Military Academy and the University of Mississippi. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Coast Guard in the South Pacific.

A chemist, he had worked at Mississippi Valley Portland Cement, Vicksburg Chemical Co. and Waterways Experiment Station, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church where he sang in the choir and served on the vestry.

Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Cook Winters; his father, A.B. Cook; and his grandparents, John and Zella Brabston, Edward Reese and Esther Cook.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Irene Smith Cook; his mother, Virginia Brabston Cook of Flowers; two daughters, Laura Beiser of Clinton and Eleanor Murphy of New Hebron; a son, John Brabston “Brab” Cook Jr. of Flowers; one brother, Ted Cook of Jackson; one sister, Camille Robinson of Richmond, Va.; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church with the Revs. Ann Whitaker, pastor, and Mike DuBose officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at New Hebron Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Fisher Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Bryan Bailey, Andrew Winters, Joshua Cook, Mike Beiser, Larry Winters, Bobby Breland, Andy McNair, David Mark and Kevin Daughdril.

Walter Doss Sr.

Services for Walter Doss Sr. will be at 1 p.m. today at Travelers Rest Baptist Church with Larry Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery under the direction of W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Visitation will be until the service at the church.

Mr. Doss died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at his home. He was 52.

He was a former employee of Rouse Rubber Co. and a member of the Church of Christ.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Doss of Vicksburg; one son, Walter Doss Jr. of Vicksburg; two daughters, Sharon Denise Doss-Williams and Angela Renee Doss, both of Vicksburg; his parents, Eugene Sr. and Mary Lee Fuller of Vicksburg; five brothers, Wilbert Doss, Arthur Fuller and John Lee Fuller, all of Vicksburg, Tommy Doss of Memphis and Ronald Lee Fuller of California; four sisters, Shelda Doss Thomas, Patricia Doss and Rosalee Fuller Green, all of Vicksburg, and Karen Fuller of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Dora Coleman of Vicksburg.

Albert C. Dunigan

Albert C. Dunigan died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 81.

Born in Franklin County, Miss., Mr. Dunigan had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 52 years. He was an Army veteran, serving in World War II. He was a retired truck driver for the Warren County Highway Department and was a member of New Vision Family Worship Center.

Survivors include his wife, Regena Holland Dunigan of Vicksburg; three sons, Gene Dunigan of Ridgeland, Billy Dunigan of Memphis and Danny Dunigan of Vicksburg; a daughter, Pat Anderson of Allen, Texas; four brothers, Jerry Dunigan and Leonard Dunigan, both of McCall, Miss., Venton Dunigan of Natchez and Othell Dunigan of Odessa, Texas; a sister, Doris Campbell of Vicksburg; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at New Vision Family Worship Center with the Rev. Rick McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Friday until the service at the church.

Pallbearers will be Stanley Mullins, Louie Mullins, Ted Crotwell, Steve Rowland, Tony Smithey, Derrick Davis and Rex Smithey.
