[7/8/04]Steven Price went 2-for-2 with a triple, three RBIs and two runs to lead the Vicksburg Gators to a 10-0 win over Brandon in the Junior State AAU tournament on Wednesday.
The Gators, Vicksburg High’s summer baseball team, advanced to play Madison Central in a pivotal winner’s bracket game tonight at 7:30 at Jackson Academy. Both teams are undefeated in the double-elimination tournament.
Vicksburg jumped on Brandon early, scoring four runs in the first and three more in the third for a commanding 7-0 lead. Blake Tidwell’s two-run single in the first and Price’s two-run triple in the third sparked the early outburst.
Price and Jordan Henry delivered a pair of RBI singles in the fourth inning to make it 9-0, and the Gators finished the game by the mercy rule after five innings.
Price also picked up the win with 4 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. He struck out six, walked one and allowed only two hits.
Henry went 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and two runs for Vicksburg, which pounded Brandon for nine hits. The Gators were also helped by five Brandon errors, including one that brought in Vicksburg’s final run in the top of the fifth.
Eric Coleman scored two runs and Tyler Wells added an RBI for Vicksburg.
Warren Central, which lost to Vicksburg in the second round, was eliminated from the tournament with a 9-8 loss to Jackson Prep on Wednesday. Prep rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the win.
