Mary Lee Gales Cook
FAYETTE Mary Lee Gales Cook died Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at her home in Fayette. She was 70.
Mrs. Cook was born in Jefferson County and attended Alcorn State University. She worked as a Head Start teacher for 39 years. She was a member of the Heroines of Jericho and the Hollywood M.B. Church in Fayette, where she was in the choir.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lethel Cook; her parents, Wilson Clark Sr. and Lou Ella Gales; and two sisters, Thelma Clark and Helen Clark Jones.
She is survived by a son, Lee Roger Cook of Omaha, Neb.; three daughters, Alice Sherman of Omaha and Jacqueline Lee and Linda Gaines, both of Fayette; two adopted daughters, Shenicki Lee and Shenata Cook, both of Fayette; a stepdaughter, Mary Brown of Rayville, La.; a grandchild she reared, Tracy Cook of Lorman; two brothers, Wilson Clark Jr. and Arnold Clark Sr., both of Fayette; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends, including Bobbie and Tina Alsworth of Fayette.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hollywood M.B. Church with the Rev. E.E. Colenburg officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 until 7 tonight at Rollins Chapel in Fayette.
Pallbearers will be members of Masonic Lodge No. 202.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tracy Cook, Lee Roger Cook, Lethel Cook, Kawasbe Kelly, James Lee, Arnold Clark, Arnold Clark Jr., Timothy Lee, Shavikia Gaines, Michael Jones, Dwayne Jones, Seboron Jones III, Arthur Cook and Marlon Jones.
Phillip T. Crutchfield
Phillip T. Crutchfield died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Vicksburg Trace Haven. He was 77.
Mr. Crutchfield was a native of Yazoo City and had lived in Vicksburg for the past 55 years. A retired businessman, he had owned and operated a service station.
He was a veteran of the Navy and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Willie Freeman Crutchfield; a brother; and five sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Leist Crutchfield of Vicksburg; two sons, Jimmy Crutchfield and Tommy Crutchfield, both of Vicksburg; two daughters, Ellen Bishop and Brenda Rippy, both of Vicksburg; and 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Charles Leist Jr., Jessie Crutchfield, Billy Leist, Delvin Irwin, Dale Stewart, Wayne Bishop and Gabe Crutchfield.
Jessie Lee Williams Ferguson
HOPEDALE Jessie Lee Williams Ferguson died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Autumn Leaves Nursing Home in Greenville. She was 82.
Mrs. Ferguson was a member of Mount Tabor M.B. Church in Hopedale, where she was in the church choir.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Flowers and Ellen Peoples, both of Greenville; a grandson she reared, Larry Climmons of California; two sisters, Gertrude Shorter of Hopedale and Mary Newell of Greenville; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Tabor M.B. Church with Pastor Bruce Dorsey officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.
Willard Franklin Gentry
DELHI Willard Franklin “Red” Gentry died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, in Delhi. He was 87.
Born in Mount Olive, Miss., Mr. Gentry was a farmer and worked as a custodian at Pioneer High School for a number of years. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
He was a veteran, earning three stars for his service in World War II. He was a member of the Military Police and served as chief cook in the camps of Africa and Italy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Ezell Gentry; his parents, Burly and Susan Tew Gentry; and two brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Pat Patrick; one sister, Mildred Ford of Shreveport, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home of Delhi with the Revs. Joe Senn and Nathan “Jack” Henderson officiating. Burial will be at Epps Cemetery in Epps.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Sullivan Sr., Allen Sullivan, Tommy Sullivan Jr., Billy Sullivan, Allen Patrick, Robert Chisolm, Ricky Patrick and Bill Patrick.
Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Patrick and Charles King.
Steven Doyle Hough
DELHI Steven Doyle Hough died Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 18.
A Monroe native, Mr. Hough was a 2003 graduate of Riverfield Academy in Rayville. He was pursuing a degree in kinesiology with a minor in coaching from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.
He was a member of the Delhi Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Carey C. Stevens, and his paternal grandparents, Beulah and Chester Hough.
He is survived by his parents, Gloria and Doyle Hough of Delhi; one brother, Cory Hough of Sterlington, La.; two sisters, Lisa Abinante of Redwood Valley, Calif., and Kim King of San Francisco; his maternal grandmother, Martha Stevens of Crowville, La.; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Delhi with Paul Lipe officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 10 tonight at Cox Funeral Home in Delhi.
Pallbearers will be David Wisenor, Larry McLendon, Donnie Foster, Neil Turner, Charles Johnston, Mike Rainwater, Jimmy Strong, Sammy Nolan and Jeff Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Riverfield football, basketball, baseball and track teams; summer baseball team members; and members of Sigma Nu fraternity at ULL.
