Glenn Edwin Sandidge

TALLULAH Glenn Edwin Sandidge died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at University Medical Center in Jackson. He was 58.

Born in Enterprise, La., Mr. Sandidge was reared in Epps and had lived in Tallulah for a number of years. He owned Glenn’s Electric and was a member of First Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, DeWitt C. Sandidge, and three brothers, Eldon Sandidge, Wayne Sandidge and Kenneth Sandidge.

Survivors include his wife, Lynette Culpepper Sandidge of Tallulah; two sons, Darryl Sandidge and Jeffrey Sandidge, both of Tallulah; three stepsons, Robert Tolar of Gonzales, La., Terry Tolar of Ethel, La., and Maurice Tolar of Tallulah; his mother, Mary Sandidge of Tallulah; a brother, Harold Sandidge of Pioneer, La.; 12 grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating. Burial will follow at Community Cemetery in Epps.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Roosevelt Schwartz

CHICAGO Services for Roosevelt Schwartz will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Robbins Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank Gardner officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Sunday until the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Schwartz died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at his home in Chicago. He was 63.

Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Schwartz was a retired cook for Town and Country Restaurant in Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jean Schwartz; his parents, Dan and Annie Schwartz; a sister, Bertha Lee Tolliver; and two brothers, Dan Schwartz Jr. and James Robert Schwartz.

Survivors include two daughters, Candy Louise Schwartz and Theresa Edwards, both of Chicago; and two sisters, Annie Bell Adams and Ruby Ella Mae Schwartz, both of Chicago.

Billie Rowe Scruggs

PORT GIBSON Billie Rowe “Bill” Scruggs died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at his home. He was 74.

A native of Dallas, Texas, Mr. Scruggs had been a resident of Port Gibson for the past 28 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, having served from 1948 until 1952. He was a member of the launch crew at Cape Canaveral, Fla., during the 1969 mission to the moon.

Mr. Scruggs retired in 1984 as a construction superintendent for Bechtel Power Corporation in the nuclear power plant division. He was a member of Red Lick Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Judith M. Scruggs of Port Gibson; three daughters, Bonnie D. Bower of Jackson, Debra S. Dropkin of Leavenworth, Kan., and Cynthia Scruggs of New York; a son, William Scott Scruggs of California; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glenwood Funeral Home in Port Gibson with Dr. Charles Gammill and the Rev. Paul Southerland officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight and from noon Saturday until the service at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Steve Stuart, Raymond Willis, Chris Fleming, Phillip Maher, Terry Miles, Fred Stuart, Allen McCurdy and Jimmy Cassell Jr.

Robert Leon Tingle Sr.

Robert Leon Tingle Sr. died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at his home. He was 74.

A native of Tallulah, Mr. Tingle was the son of the late Henry Walter and Ora Lee Stephens Tingle. He was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and Warren County. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 after 20 years of service.

Mr. Tingle worked as a fireman for 10 years with the City of Vicksburg and worked in security and as a fireman for Waterways Experiment Station for 10 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2572, American Legion Post 3 and Lighthouse Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Eleanor Tompkins Tingle; six brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include four daughters, Gail Moore, Bettye Redditt and Debbie Katzenmeyer, all of Vicksburg, and Jean Mullen of Clinton; two sons, Robert Leon Tingle Jr. of Charleston, S.C., and Jody Tingle of Astoria, Ore.; a sister, Virginia Townsend of Vicksburg; three brothers, Lewis Tingle of Vicksburg, Charles Tingle of Baker, La., and Fred Tingle of Covington, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with the Rev. E.L. Sharp, pastor of Lighthouse Baptist Church, officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be members of Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the VFW Post 2572 and American Legion Post 3.

Burney Rock Westmoreland

TALLULAH Burney Rock Westmoreland died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at his home in Tallulah. He was 68.

A lifelong resident of Tallulah, Mr. Westmoreland was a member of First Baptist Church. He managed Three Rivers Co-op in Ferriday, La., and was a district representative for Hart Seed Co.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Le’Evelyn Westmoreland of Tallulah; three daughters, Le’Eleanor Westmoreland of Tallulah, Celeste Thames of Sondheimer and Stephanie Hulsey of Birmingham, Ala.; and two grandsons.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at Mr. Westmoreland’s home, 907 Liberty St. in Tallulah.

Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home of Tallulah has charge of arrangements.
