Mitchell Nichols

Mitchell Nichols died Thursday, May 20, 2004, at his home. He was 65.

Born in Raleigh, Mr. Nichols had been a Vicksburg resident since 1961. He was the son of the late Luther Obid and Willie Mae Smith Nichols.

He retired as owner of Nichols Trucking Co. He served in the Marine Corps and was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, James Obid Nichols.

Survivors include Hazle Nichols of Vicksburg; a son, Ken Nichols of Vicksburg; one sister, Sue Blakeney of Brandon; and a granddaughter, Kelli Michelle Nichols.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Cemetery in Smith County with the Rev. Gene Jacks, pastor of Northside Baptist Church, officiating.

Visitation will be from 9 until 11 a.m. Monday at Riles Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be James Comans, Bubba Comans, James Ashley, Wayne Barrett, Don Hollowell and Bill Collins.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Northside Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church, 4820 N. Washington St., Vicksburg, MS 39183.

Rose Mary Rice

Rose Mary Rice died Friday, May 21, 2004, at her home. She was 79.

A native of Wesson, Miss Rice had lived in Jackson for 60 years before moving to Vicksburg six months ago.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at Sylvarena Baptist Church Cemetery in Wesson.

Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Rosie L. Turner

Services for Rosie Turner will be at 3 p.m. today at Greater Zion M.B. Church in Utica. Burial will follow at the Greater Zion M.B. Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Turner died Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 58.

Mrs. Turner had been a Vicksburg resident for more than 50 years. A former employee of Vicksburg Medical Center, she was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles P. Turner; her parents, D.L. and Maggie Thomas; a sister, Shirley Wilson; and a brother, Tommy Thomas.

She is survived by two daughters, Carla Turner of Mesquite, Texas, and Felisia Turner of Vicksburg; four sisters, Ernestine Thomas of Chicago and Celestone Thomas, Betty Butler and Freddie Mitchell, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, D.L. Thomas of Vicksburg and Roger Thomas of Oak Park, Ill.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, including members of the Gibson and Brown families.

Floyd D. Wilson

Floyd D. Wilson died Friday, May 21, 2004. He was 59.

Mr. Wilson was a retired construction worker and a funeral director at Williams Funeral Service. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Wilson and Margie Watson Scott; and a sister, Allie Frances Cotton.

He is survived by his brother, James “Victor” A. Rice Jr. of Jackson; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including Margaret Glover of Vicksburg and the Coleman and Green families of Vicksburg and the Williams Funeral Service staff.
