James Barnes
Services for James Barnes will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christian Chapel Church in Port Gibson with T.E. Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Scott’s Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 today at the funeral home and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the service at the church.
Mr. Barnes died Friday, June 11, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Barnes worked as a crane operator for Ford Motor Company until his retirement. He was a member of Zion Chapel Church in Detroit, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac Barnes and Inez Goings Barnes-Holt; five brothers, George Barnes, John Barnes, Steve Rogers, Jimmy Holt and Larry Holt; and a sister, JoAnn Holt.
Survivors include his wife, Adella Barnes of Vicksburg; three sons, Nathaniel Ammon of Glassville, Pa., James Barnes Jr. of Detroit and Ronnie Storks of Port Gibson; two daughters, Roda Barnes and Helena Barnes, both of Vicksburg; four sisters, Fay Holt-Davis, Lula B. Buck, Bertha Dorsey and Myrtis Hicks, all of Port Gibson; four brothers, Curtis Ross and Gregory Polk, both of Port Gibson, William Holt of Vero Beach, Fla., and Willie White of Vicksburg; 10 grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Patrick T. Berry
Patrick T. Berry died Saturday, June 12, 2004, in Port Gibson. He was 20.
Mr. Berry was a resident of Vicksburg.
He is survived by his mother, Theresa Powers of Vicksburg; his father, Percy Chambers Jr. of Lorman; eight brothers, Marlon Berry of Fayette, Ray Charles Powers Jr. and Adrian Berry, both of Vicksburg, Chad Chambers of Mapleville, Ala., Andropolis Powers of Columbus, Ohio, Percy Chambers III of Pennsylvania, Sal Chambers of Nashville, Tenn., and Timothy Chambers of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Pattrenella Chambers of North Carolina and Avis Chambers of Augusta, Ga.; his maternal grandmother, Mary L. Berry of Port Gibson; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including George Stringer of Fayette and Latrina Jackson of Pattison.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Port Gibson High School Gymnasium with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at McCay Cemetery in Russum under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Thursday, with family hour from 5 until 6, at the funeral home and from noon Friday until the service at the school.
Pauline Davis
Pauline Davis died Saturday, June 12, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 94.
Ms. Davis was a resident of Vicksburg.
She is survived by a son, Sam Reeder of Port Gibson; a daughter, Vina Amlet of Chicago; nine grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Thompson Funeral Home in Port Gibson with the Rev. Horace Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Grove M.B. Church Cemetery in Pattison.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. Thursday and from noon Friday until the service at the funeral home.
John Guider
UTICA John Guider died Monday, June 14, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 50.
Born in Vicksburg, Mr. Guider had lived in the Chapel Hill community near Utica for the past 10 years. He received a degree in biology from Ole Miss and a master’s degree in wildlife biology from LSU. He was a member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church in Learned and a former elder at First Presbyterian Church in Vicksburg.
Mr. Guider was a former program director and camp director at the Vicksburg YMCA. From 1979 until 1985 he worked as an environmental chemist at Baxter Wilson Steam Plant. For the past nine years he served as the environmental and personnel director at Southern Lumber Company in Hermanville.
He was preceded in death by his father, Judge Ben Guider.
Survivors include his wife, Beth Guider of the Chapel Hill community; three daughters, Susan Guider, Meredith Guider and Alison Guider; his mother, Mary Guider of Vicksburg; three sisters, Sally Gray of Tupelo, Mary D. Corkern of Lexington, Ky., and Elizabeth Guider Collins of Los Angeles, Calif.; two brothers, Tom Guider of Wilmington, Del., and Dr. Ben Guider of New Orleans; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at the Old Lebanon Presbyterian Church Cemetery under the direction of Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Raymond.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be his nephews and godson.
Memorials may be made to Warner Tully YMCA Camp or to Lebanon Presbyterian Church.
William Stanley Scallions
William Stanley Scallions died Tuesday, June 15, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 66.
Born in Tippo, Miss., Mr. Scallions lived in Phillips and had been a Vicksburg resident for the past 50 years. He owned and operated Scallions Lumber Co. in Edwards. He was a musician in the Bad Habits Band.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Lee and Ida Mae Gentry Scallions, and a brother, James Henry Scallions.
He is survived by Brenda Nelson of Yazoo City; one son, Jason Scallions of Collierville, Tenn.; three daughters, B.J. Presley of Vicksburg, Veronica “Hoobie” McDuff of Valley Park and Cindy Aslaner of Augusta, Ga.; two brothers, Les Scallions and Lacy Scallions, both of Vicksburg; two sisters, Deserie Edwards and Shirley Italiano, both of Vicksburg; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. David Sterling officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Edwards, Danny Scallions, Todd Scallions, Guy Italiano Jr., Raymond Scallions Jr. and Tommy Boyanton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Shiers, Herbert Shiers, Bud Johnson, Don Robinson, Dale Burrough, Billy Wright, Brenda Wright, Lorraine Belnap, John Manby, John Belnap and Arthur Boyanton Jr.
