Alice Rose Guess
LOS ANGELES Alice Rose Guess died Friday, March 26, 2004, in Los Angeles. She was 70.
Born in Vicksburg, Mrs. Guess had attended St. Mary’s Catholic School. She graduated as a registered nurse from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Phoenix, Ariz. She was head nurse at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard Sr. and Mary Rose; and a brother, Leonard Rose Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Marlon Guess of Los Angeles; two daughters, Marla Guess and Marsha Guess, both of New York City; two sisters, Florence Greenwood and Gladys Harris, both of Gary, Ind.; nieces, nephews and cousins; and other relatives and friends, including Alice Tillman of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Los Angeles under the direction of Spaulding Funeral Home.
Visitation will be at 7 tonight at the church.
Charlie Martin Sr.
Charlie Martin Sr. died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at home. He was 71.
Mr. Martin was a member of Greater Mount Lebanon M.B. Church. He was retired from Anderson-Tully Co. and from Mid-South Lumber Co.
He was preceded in death by Laura Linzy and his parents, Albert and Alberta Martin.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Martin of Vicksburg; 10 sons, Charlie Martin Jr., Robert Martin Sr., Lester Martin Sr., David Linzy, Gregory Linzy, Nathan Linzy and Michael Linzy, all of Vicksburg, Preston Linzy of O’Fallon, Ill., and Robert Linzy and Harold Lindsey, both of Houston, Texas; six daughters, Linda Milton of Utica, Albertha Martin of Portland, Ore., and Patricia Martin, Barbara Kline, Janice Harris and Gladys McGowan, all of Vicksburg; a sister, Willie Mae Atkins of Vicksburg; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.
Dillon-Chisley Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
Rev. James Nash
PORT GIBSON The Rev. James Nash died Wednesday, March 24, 2004, at Claiborne County Hospital in Port Gibson. He was 50.
A resident of Port Gibson, the Rev. Nash was a member and assisting pastor of New Come and See M.B. Church and the pastor of Campbell Chapel M.B. Church. He was the vice president of Minister Alliance of Claiborne County, a board member of AJFC and a member of the Baptist Aid.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James McCaa and Ruth Nash; a sister, Maggie Nash-Coleman; and a brother, Larry Nash-Lucas.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Nash of Port Gibson; three daughters, Barbara Bailey, Sandra Nash and Angela Nash, all of Port Gibson; a sister, Mary Emma Woods of Port Gibson; a brother, Julius Campbell of Chicago; three grandchildren, Jeremy Bailey, Justin Bailey and Dante’vion Torrain, all of Port Gibson; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at China Grove M.B. Church in Russum with the Revs. Eddie Walls and Leon Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Engleside Cemetery in Port Gibson under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home Inc.
Visitation will be from 1 until 5 p.m. today at the funeral home with family hour from 6 until 7:30 tonight at Campbell Chapel Church in the Willows community.
Martha Mary Terwilliger
Martha Mary Terwilliger died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 85.
Mrs. Terwilliger, formerly of Howell, Mich., was a resident of Belmont Gardens.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Leighton Terwilliger.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Ingram of Vicksburg; two sons, Gerald Terwilliger of Parkland, Fla., and Thomas E. Terwilliger of Miami; and six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at noon Tuesday followed by a prayer service at 1 p.m. at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Patrick Farrell officiating.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Howell. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Howell.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church or Vicksburg Catholic School.
