Inez McNeely Grogan

Inez McNeely Grogan died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Belmont Place in Vicksburg. She was 78.

Born in Oxford to the late John Thomas and Mamie McNeely, Mrs. Grogan was a graduate of University High School. She attended nursing school at the University of Mississippi before moving to Vicksburg in 1945. She worked as a nurse for Dr. Robert Moore at the Vicksburg Hospital.

Mrs. Grogan was a homemaker and a member of the Dorcas Circle at First Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth F. Grogan Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Beth Grogan-White of Vicksburg; a son, Kenneth F. Grogan III of Vicksburg; two brothers, Ralph McNeely of Memphis and James McNeely of Oxford; three grandchildren; and other relatives.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Steve Bryant, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at Edwards Cemetery under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. Wednesday until the service in Ward Hall at First Presbyterian Church.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Forbes Grogan IV, Ralph McNeely, Jim McNeely, Freddie Hutton, Dr. Milton Farr, Frank Campbell, David Blackledge, the Rev. Bobby Anderson, Jane Campbell and Jack S. Grogan.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Dorcas Circle.

Mary Jo Johnson

Mary Jo Johnson died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at her home in Clinton. She was 77.

A native of Leighton, Ala., Mrs. Johnson had lived in Vicksburg for 22 years before moving to Clinton eight years ago. She was of the Methodist faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad H. Johnson Sr.; her parents, Edward and Camilla Josephine Preuit Pippen.

Survivors include her daughter, Elizabeth Stewart of Clinton; a son, Conrad H. Johnson Jr. of Long Beach; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Green Acres Cemetery with the Rev. Thomas McGing, pastor of Holy Saviour Catholic Church in Clinton, officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.

James Edward Kirkland

PIONEER James Edward Kirkland died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, La. He was 69.

A resident of Pioneer, Mr. Kirkland was a member of Monticello Southern Baptist Church and was an operator of a peach orchard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cluster and Earline Kirkland; and a brother, J.C. Kirkland.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Kirkland of Pioneer; two sons, Chris Kirkland and Mark Kirkland, both of Pioneer; four daughters, Janie Smitherman and Kim Arledge, both of Monticello, La., Jerri McCuen of Shongaloo, La., and Deanne Lovell of Lake Providence; three brothers, Bill Kirkland of Georgetown, Miss., Mike Kirkland of Houston, Texas, and Tommy Kirkland of Bachelor, La.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Monticello Southern Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Hale and Rocky Stephens officiating. Burial will follow at Herringville Cemetery in Monticello under the direction of Cox Funeral Home in Delhi, La.

Pallbearers will be Billy Griffin, Rickie Condrey, Heath Hutchinson, Jason Kirkland, Larry Vickery and Elsor Alexander.

Honorary pallbearers will be Son Johnston, Gene Graham and Pete Philley.

Wesley I. Rosso

EDWARDS Wesley I. Rosso died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at his home in Edwards. He was 79.

A native of South Dakota, Mr. Rosso was an Army veteran, having served in the Philippines during World War II. He was a former park policeman in Washington, D.C., and retired from IBM Corp. after 29 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Lawrence Rosso.

Survivors include two daughters, Allean Mortensen of Edwards and Annette Rollins of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Opal Noone of Iverness, Fla., and Joyce Hallock of Spear Fish, S.D.; and a grandchild.

Private services will be Wednesday. Burial will follow under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.

Walter Aden White Sr.

YAZOO CITY Walter Aden White Sr. died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson. He was 83.

Born in Learned, Mr. White was a resident of Yazoo City. He graduated from Mississippi State University in 1948. He was an Army veteran, having served in World War II. He retired as a county agent in Yazoo County after 30 years of service and was a member of the Karnac Hunting Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred White of Yazoo City; three daughters, Ann Crowson of Lilburn, Ga., Betty Jo Armirez of Baton Rouge, La., and Kathy Lunceford of Clinton; a son, Walter A. “Bud” White Jr.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Criddle officiating. Burial will follow at Cayuga Cemetery in Utica under the direction of Stricklin King Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 tonight at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Harold Kelly, Nick Birdsong, Sammy White, George Cummings, Bobby Mitchener and Phillip Coutch.
