Rosetta Demby

Rosetta “Lil Sister” Demby died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 70.

Mrs. Demby was retired and was a member of Locust Grove M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tyree Sr. and Mary Brown Banks, and two brothers, Tyree Banks Jr. and Oscar “Bill” Banks.

She is survived by her husband, William L. Demby Sr. of Haltom, Texas; a son, William L. Demby Jr. of Port Gibson; a daughter, Patricia Demby Hamberlin of Vicksburg; one brother, Paul Banks Sr. of Vicksburg; six sisters, Maggie Thomas and Kathleen Dimbly, both of Vicksburg, Frances Norwood of Terry and Mary Lue Carter, Kathryn Cummins and Gladys Hurens, all of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Locust Grove M.B. Church on Stenson Road with the Rev. Robert L. Miller Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 until 7 p.m. Friday at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home.

Marilyn Elzie

Marilyn Elzie died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 64.

Miss Elzie was a resident of Vicksburg and a member of New Mount Pilgrim M.B. Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Mary Piggs Elzie; and her grandparents, Estella Adams and Rosie Lee Gordon.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Elzie of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, John Elzie of St. Louis and Sylvester Elzie of Chicago; six sisters, Willie Lee Johnson of Gary, Ind., Carolyn Jenkins, Lucy Mae Sills and Mary Carr, all of St. Louis, and Marion Joyce Williams and Shirley Ann Elzie, both of Vicksburg; two grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Henry G. Heggins Sr.

Services for Henry G. Heggins Sr. will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Glenwood Funeral Home with the Rev. Toby Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Heggins died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. He was 70.

Mr. Heggins was a lifelong resident of Vicksburg. He was an Air Force veteran, having served in Korea and Vietnam and retired in 1972 after 22 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and Moose Lodge and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He owned and operated Discount Furniture Barn in Vicksburg and Heggins Enterprises in Port Gibson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyman W. and Ina Mae Heggins; and a son, Henry G. “Phil” Heggins Jr.

Survivors include his wife, Miyo O. Heggins of Vicksburg; two sons, Shigeru Heggins of Greenville, S.C., and John H. Heggins of Vicksburg; a daughter, Mary Landers of Port Gibson; two brothers, Johnnie Heggins of Greenwood and Billy Heggins of Vicksburg; five sisters, Helen Henley of Vicksburg, Jeannie Ogden of Delhi, Ancie Greer of Mozelle, Louise Cosby of Newark, Texas, and Mettie Alexander of Delta; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Heggins, Terry Easterling, James Purvis, Brent Hopkins, Jason Gordon and Wayne Muirhead.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the 31st Infantry Dixie Division, Moose Lodge and American Legion and T.D. Easterling, Tal Sheffield, Glen McKay, Willie Johnson and Pete Wardlaw.

Hattie Tolliver Jefferson

Hattie Tolliver Jefferson died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at her home. She was 96.

A homemaker, Mrs. Jefferson was a member and mother at Porters Chapel M.B. Church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Jefferson; her parents, Manuel Tolliver and Mary Gibson; five brothers, Lynch Gibson, Ceaser Gibson, William Gibson, Andrew Gibson and Johnnie Gibson; three sisters, Fannie Collins, Josey Mae Wallace and Ella Mae Crumb; and a granddaughter, Tina Arlett Clemons.

Survivors include four daughters, Armets Jefferson, Ora Dee Cummings, Johnnie Ethel Peaches and Rebecca Clemons, all of Vicksburg; two brothers, Edward Gibson of Knoxville, Tenn., and Rufus Gibson of Vicksburg; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Kinton M. Jones

EDWARDS Kinton M. Jones died Monday, July 5, 2004, at his home in Edwards. He was 57.

Born in Mize, Mr. Jones was a welder and was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of Hyland Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd W. Jones and Ida Viola Westbrook Jones.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Jernigan Jones of Edwards; three sons, Ken Jones of Mize, Lloyd Jones of Vicksburg and Ronnie Ulmer Jr. of Orangeburg, S.C.; two daughters, Connie Hedrick of Edwards and Nancy Hinson of Vicksburg; a brother, Glenn Jones of North Augusta, S.C.; and nine grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home in Magee. Burial will follow at Fairmount Waco Cemetery in Mize.

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.

Annie Mae Lane

Annie Mae Lane died Sunday, July 4, 2004, at her home. She was 65.

Mrs. Lane was employed at Sunshine Laundry Mat. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Earl and Mary Lillian Williams Brown; three brothers, Willie Earl Brown, William Brown and Walter Brown; and a sister, Rosie Lee Brown.

She is survived by three sons, Herbert Lane and Ronald Lane, both of Vicksburg, and Clarence Lane of Clinton; a daughter, Renett Williams of Vicksburg; five brothers, Nathaniel Brown of Vicksburg, Lawrence Greer of Marbury, Md., David Brown of South Holland, Ill., Robert Greer of Dalton, Ill., and Charles Brown of Chicago; a sister, Christine Townsend of Birmingham, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives, including Monroe and Alice Williams of Vicksburg.
