Charlotte Adams Sadie James
Services for Charlotte Adams and her daughter, Sadie James, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Travelers Rest M.B. Church on Bowmar Avenue with the Rev. Henry Mayfield Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6 until 7 tonight at W.H. Jefferson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. Saturday until the service at the church.
Mrs. Adams died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 94.
A resident of Vicksburg, Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church No. 4.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Adams; a brother, C.W. White; a sister, Exelene Mickey; and her parents, Frank Aytch and Isabella Whit.
Survivors include a son, James Adams of St. Louis; nieces and nephews; and 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. James also survived her mother, but died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at River Region Medical Center. She was 77.
Mrs. James was retired from the Vicksburg Warren School District. She was a member of Mount Zion M.B. Church No. 4, where she served as a church mother.
She was also preceded in death by her father, Andrew Bell Sr.
She is survived by three sons, Roosevelt James Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn., Robert Lee James of Vicksburg and Larry Darnell James of Atlanta; three daughters, Shirley Walker, Ernestine Newton and Rosie James, all of Vicksburg; six brothers, James Adams of St. Louis, Freddie Bell of Chicago and Louis Bell, Andrew Bell Jr., Otis Bell and Robert Bell, all of Vicksburg; two sisters, Jessie Robinson of Vicksburg and Flora Melvin of Chicago; and 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Amos Poncho Beard
ELK CITY, Okla. Amos Poncho Beard died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004, at Great Plains Medical Center in Elk City, Okla. He was 45.
Mr. Beard was born in Big Springs, Texas. He was a resident of Elk City, where he was a construction worker.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Debbie Brown Beard.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna Beard of Elk City; three sons, Bobbie Joe Beard and Paul David Beard, both of Elk City, and Robby Beard of Vicksburg; his father, John Raymond Beard of Cordell, Okla.; his mother, Peggy Hill of Oak Grove; one brother, Johnny Beard of Cordell; and one sister, Debbie Chapin of Vicksburg.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cox Funeral Home in Oak Grove with the Rev. Ronald Ratley officiating. Burial will follow at Kilbourne Cemetery in Kilbourne, La. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Deere, Allen Lagrone, Anthony Lagrone, Mike Thompson, Jimmy Tabor, Hicks Bradley, Johnny Easterling and Dwayne Nevels.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Ratcliff and Randy Aaron.
Dan Hayes SPRINGFIELD, Ill. Dan Hayes died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004, at St. John Hospital in Springfield, Ill. He was 47.
A former resident of Rolling Fork, Mr. Hayes had lived in Springfield for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Hayes; one son, Dan Dris Hayes of Rockford, Ill.; one daughter, Renarda Hayes of Rolling Fork; two stepdaughters, Veleda Lane and Victoria Hayes, both of Rolling Fork; two sisters, Helen Hayes and Jessie Hayes, both of Springfield; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at E.P. Baptist Church in Rolling Fork. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Home of Rolling Fork.
Mark D. Herrington
Mark D. Herrington died Monday, Sept. 13, 2004. He was 38.
A native and lifelong resident of Vicksburg, Mr. Herrington had attended Warren Central High School and Hinds Junior College.
He had worked for the Corps of Engineers Vicksburg District for the past six years. He was a member of Warrenton Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Lauri Herrington of Vicksburg; a daughter, Randi Herrington of Vicksburg; a son, Alex Herrington of Vicksburg; his parents, Ray and Mildred Herrington of Vicksburg; a sister, Rhonda Herrington Culicchia of Mandeville, La.; and other relatives.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fisher Funeral Home with Les Ferguson and Wayne Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Green Acres Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Shane Maston, James Parker, Nick Hutson, Ralph Allison, Charles “Tiger” Irons, Marty Vandenthysen and Jimmy T. Carroll Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Donnie Gardner, Bobbie Ferguson, Tommy Vaughn, Donnie McKnight, Tommy Kelley, Preston Flanagan, Bobby Stokes, Ross Floyd, Dr. Walter Johnston, Monte Causey, Chad Evans, members of Warrenton Church of Christ and employees of the Corps Mat Sinking Unit.

Arthur W. Murrell
Arthur W. Murrell died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Heritage House Nursing Home. He was 94.
A native of Tulsa, Okla., Mr. Murrell had been a Vicksburg resident since 1999. He was a map draftsman for Amoco, working in Tulsa, Casper, Wyo., and Denver, Colo., and retiring after 35 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gwen Edmiston Murrell.
He is survived by two sons, Don Murrell of Vicksburg and Gary Murrell of Edmond, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services and burial will be in Tulsa. Riles Funeral Home has charge of local arrangements.
