Nell S. Brewer
OCEAN SPRINGS Nell S. “Jelly Bean Lady” Brewer died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Sunplex Subacute Center in Ocean Springs. She was 81.
Mrs. Brewer was born in Memphis to Roy and Lucille Shelton. In 1934, she moved with her family to Vicksburg, where she lived until 2001. She had been a resident of the Gulf Coast area for three years.
She retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station after 30 years of federal service. In Vicksburg, she attended Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 70 years and was a choir member. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs.
Survivors include two daughters, Kay Lynn Beemon of Ocean Springs and Brenda Massimo of Frederick, Md.; three sisters, Mary Ann Nicholson of Gulfport, Betty Harden of Atlanta and Cynthia Lathrop of Albuquerque, N.M.; three grandchildren; one stepgrandson; a great-grandson; a stepgreat-grandson; and other relatives and friends, including Nora Harvey, Gina Clement and Lora Payton.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Ocean Springs. A memorial service will be held in Vicksburg at a later date.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church Organ Fund in Ocean Springs or to the Gibson Memorial United Methodist Church Building Fund in Vicksburg.
Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs has charge of arrangements.
Mary Ann Dalrymple
Mary Ann Dalrymple died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Shady Lawn Nursing Home. She was 43.
Mrs. Dalrymple lived in Harrisonburg, Va., for 19 years before moving to Vicksburg a year ago.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph Carlson and Bernadette Carlson.
She is survived by her husband, Ian “Robin” Dalrymple; two sons, Christopher Dalrymple and Andrew Dalrymple, both of Harrisonburg; a sister, Reggie Bockman of Vicksburg; a brother, Carl Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and nieces and nephews.

Henrietta Farrar
BRANDON Henrietta Farrar died Sunday, May 16, 2004, at Brandon Court Nursing Home in Brandon. She was 88.
A native of Greenwood, Miss Farrar had lived in Anguilla before moving to Brandon two years ago. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Anguilla and was a retired bookkeeper for the circuit clerk of Sharkey County.
She is survived by a son, Allen Sanders of Greenville; a daughter, Ann Arnold of Pearl; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Anguilla with the Revs. Steve Jackson and Brad Moak officiating. Burial will follow at Golden Link Cemetery under the direction of Glenwood Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Russell Stewart, Craig Boykin, Neal Clinkscales, Charles Keever, Glen Diffey, Donnie Collins, Paul Hargrave and Tommy Thomason.
Leo Braxton Phillips
JACKSON Leo Braxton Phillips died Monday, May 17, 2004, at G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Veterans Administration Hospital in Jackson. He was 91.
Born in Hazlehurst, Mr. Phillips was a resident of Jackson. He retired from the Army after more than 40 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; nine brothers and sisters; and a grandson, Phillip O’Connor.
Survivors include his wife, Hermine Phillips of Jackson; two daughters, Frances Jackson of Jackson and Pat O’Connor of Vicksburg; a brother, Woody Phillips of Niceville, Fla.; a sister, Alma Townsend of Jackson; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson. Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be the grandchildren and nephews.
Gertrude Wright
BELZONI Gertrude Wright died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Olive Branch Nursing Home in Belzoni. She was 90.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, Willis W. Wright; and a grandson, Ray Wright.
She is survived by two daughters, Peggy Powers and Kathy Dulin, both of Vicksburg; two sons, Raymond Wright of Bainbridge, Ga., and Bobby Wright of Knoxville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Martha Wright, Mike Wright, David Wright, Donald Powers and Ronald Powers; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Belzoni City Cemetery with the Rev. George Johnson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Mortimer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the service.
